Disney+ Error Code 1028 has historically appeared when the app fails during startup, often on LG and Samsung smart TVs. Disney does not currently publish a dedicated explanation for 1028, so no single cause or guaranteed fix is established. Start by checking whether the problem is limited to one TV, then try the safe recovery steps below.
What Disney+ Error Code 1028 means
Older reports associate Error 1028 with an app initialization failure and messages such as DICTIONARY_SERVICE_INIT_FAILURE or DICTIONARY_SERVICE_INT_FAILURE. Those labels come from historical reports, not a current official Disney definition. Disney’s current public error-code index does not list 1028.
The code usually indicates that the Disney+ app failed during startup. By itself, it does not prove that your subscription, Wi-Fi password, or TV hardware is defective. Historical reports mention LG and Samsung smart-TV apps most often, sometimes around app or platform updates, but do not establish that every model from either brand is affected. Temporary service-side failures have also been reported. Historical coverage and user reports provide context, not a guaranteed diagnosis.
First determine whether the problem is the TV or Disney+
Before resetting anything, record the exact code and message, TV make and model, firmware and app versions if available, and whether the error appears at launch or only when playing a title. Note whether Disney+ works on another device.

| What you observe | Likely direction | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ fails only on one TV | TV app, cache, firmware, compatibility, or device registration | Restart, update, clear app data if available, then reinstall |
| Disney+ fails on several devices | Possible Disney-side, account, or network issue | Test another network if practical and contact Disney support |
| Other apps also fail on the TV | TV connectivity or home-network issue | Check the TV connection and restart network equipment |
| The error started after an app or TV update | Possible compatibility issue or defective release | Check for a newer update and contact Disney or the TV maker |
| Disney+ works on your phone but not the TV | TV-specific app or platform issue | Focus troubleshooting on the TV; use another supported device temporarily |
These comparisons help narrow the cause but are not conclusive: another streaming app may work even when Disney+ has a service-specific connection problem. Disney recommends checking the internet connection and testing other apps as part of its streaming troubleshooting guidance. Do not assume Disney+ is currently down without checking current reports or asking support.
Try these fixes in order
- Fully close and reopen Disney+. Exit the app rather than simply leaving it in the background, wait briefly, then launch it again. Disney’s app-loading guidance starts with fully closing the app or website.
- Restart the TV. Turn it off. If that does not perform a full restart on your model, disconnect its power for about 30–60 seconds, reconnect it, and open Disney+ again. This is a normal restart, not a factory reset.
- Power-cycle the modem and router. Turn off the TV, unplug the modem and router, and allow them to shut down. Restart the modem, then the router; wait for internet service to return, restart the TV, and test Disney+. Disney includes restarting the modem, router, and device in its streaming-error steps.
- Test other apps and another Disney+ device. Try another streaming app on the affected TV, then try Disney+ on a phone, tablet, computer, or another TV. If other Disney+ devices work, concentrate on the affected TV’s app, firmware, cache, or activation.
- Install available app and TV updates. Check the TV’s software-update menu and its app store for a Disney+ update. Menu names vary by model and software version. Disney lists outdated app or system software as a possible source of streaming problems in its troubleshooting guidance.
- Clear Disney+ cache or app data, if the TV allows it. Look in the TV’s application-management settings. Clearing cache removes temporary files; clearing data or resetting the app may sign you out or remove local settings. Some LG and Samsung models do not offer a conventional per-app cache control. See Disney’s cache and data guidance for device-specific information.
- Sign out and back in, or reactivate the device. If the app opens far enough, sign out, restart the TV, and sign back in. Use a device deactivation or reactivation option only if Disney+ provides it. Do not delete your MyDisney account: its login may be used by other Disney-family services. See Disney’s login guidance.
- Uninstall and reinstall Disney+. Remove the app, restart the TV, reinstall it from the official app store, and sign in again. This is a standard app-loading step, not a guaranteed 1028 fix. If the same error returns, move to diagnosis or support rather than repeating the reinstall indefinitely.
- Check date and time settings. Set the TV to automatic date and time and confirm the time zone. Old forum posts describe changing the clock, but the results were inconsistent and could change the error rather than fix it. An incorrect clock can also disrupt authentication, certificates, and other apps; do not leave it set incorrectly.
Brand-specific checks for LG and Samsung TVs
LG TVs
Restart the TV, check for a webOS or other TV software update, and reinstall Disney+ from the TV’s official app store if the earlier steps fail. App-management options and menu paths differ across LG models and software versions, so use the menus available on your specific set rather than assuming one universal path. Check Disney’s current supported-device requirements for your exact model before concluding that it is unsupported.

Samsung TVs
Restart the TV, check for a firmware and Disney+ app update, then reinstall the app if needed. A Smart Hub reset is a later, manufacturer-specific option, not a first-line Error 1028 fix; it may affect installed apps and sign-ins. Check Samsung’s instructions for your model before using it. Disney does not identify a factory reset or Smart Hub reset as a specific remedy for 1028.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf you see 1028 in a browser or another device
For a computer browser, make sure JavaScript and cookies are enabled, clear Disney+ site data or cache, update the browser, and temporarily disable extensions that may interfere with playback. Try a private window, another supported browser, or another device. Disney’s streaming guidance covers browser requirements and general troubleshooting. If the error appears before the app opens on a TV, HDMI equipment is not the first suspect; HDCP compatibility matters more when an external display connection causes a playback or display error.

When to stop troubleshooting and get help
Contact Disney+ if reinstalling does not help, the account fails on multiple devices, or other users appear to be encountering the same startup error. Contact the TV manufacturer if Disney+ alone fails on one TV after app and firmware updates, particularly if the manufacturer needs to check model support or app compatibility. Disney’s support guidance directs users to contact support when standard steps do not resolve streaming problems.
Give support the exact error text, TV make and model, firmware and app versions, country or region, when the problem began, whether it started after an update, whether other apps work, whether Disney+ works on another device, and the steps already tried. Quote the full message as well as the number: similar startup errors are not necessarily interchangeable.

- ✅ Choose Your Apps, Total Freedom Unlike traditional AI Boxes limited to fixed apps, the AUTOSKY AI Box Lite FLEX lets you choose any 2 streaming apps from a list of 13 supported platforms. Switch apps anytime to match your lifestyle—sports, movies, kids content, or live TV.
- ✅ Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto + Streaming Convert your factory wired CarPlay or Android Auto into wireless, while also projecting streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, ESPN, and more directly onto your vehicle’s screen using WiFi or mobile hotspot.
- ✅ True Plug & Play – Keep All OEM Controls No coding, no modifications, no extra adapters. Simply plug it in and go. Your original touchscreen, steering wheel buttons, knobs, and voice commands continue working exactly as designed by your vehicle manufacturer.
- ✅ Wide Vehicle & Phone Compatibility Compatible with most vehicles equipped with wired CarPlay or wired Android Auto. Works with iPhone 6 and newer, Samsung, Pixel, and other Android phones that support CarPlay or Android Auto technologies.
- ⚠️ Important Compatibility Requirements A touchscreen display is required for streaming apps. Streaming services require an internet connection (WiFi or phone hotspot) and login with your own app subscriptions. This model uses a single WiFi module, so WiFi must be reconnected when switching between wireless CarPlay/Android Auto and streaming apps.
If Disney+ continues to work on another supported device, you can use that device or an external streaming device temporarily. That workaround does not prove the TV itself is defective. Check Disney’s current supported-device requirements for the exact TV model rather than relying on old model-year claims.

Error 1016 is a separate code that appeared alongside 1028 in reports from the same historical LG and Samsung incident; some users said it changed after trying workarounds. Error 1026 is separately documented by Disney as AUTH_SERVICE_INT_FAILURE, associated with app, connection, or authentication initialization problems. See Disney’s Error 1026 article. If you contact support, provide the exact code and message rather than assuming another startup-error guide applies.

Steps to avoid during diagnosis
- Do not factory-reset the TV as an early step. A reset can erase accounts, apps, network credentials, picture settings, and other configuration. Consider it only after confirming the issue is TV-specific, app reinstall and firmware updates have failed, and the manufacturer recommends it. Record settings and passwords first.
- Do not treat DNS changes as a verified fix. Changing DNS is not an established Error 1028 remedy and may create connectivity or filtering problems.
- Disable VPNs, proxies, or unusual DNS filtering while testing. These can introduce location, authentication, or routing problems; buying a VPN is not a solution for this error.
- Do not repeatedly reset the TV when several devices fail. A problem across devices or networks is less likely to be fixed by changing one TV’s settings.
