No. Disney did not buy Jeffrey Epstein’s island. The viral claim came from Mouse Trap News, a site that openly describes its Disney-themed stories as fake satire and parody.
Where the Disney-island claim came from
In April 2024, a Facebook post circulated a screenshot resembling a Google result and claimed that The Walt Disney Company had officially bought Epstein Island. Lead Stories traced the screenshot to a Mouse Trap News article titled “The Walt Disney Company Buys Epstein Island.” Lead Stories’ fact-check documented that connection.
Mouse Trap News identifies itself as a satire and parody site. Its About section says it writes “fake stories about Disney Parks stuff” and cautions that its stories are “not true, real, or accurate.” The article itself also called the purchase story “totally made-up.” These are the site’s own descriptions, not statements from Disney. What the fabricated story claimed
The rumor bundled several details together: an alleged $3 billion purchase, a plan to build a theme park, and a Disney cruise-ship stop. Those were claims in the satirical story, not verified transaction terms or Disney announcements. Gizmodo also reported that the purchase, price, park and cruise-stop claims were false. A purported Disney quote in the viral material—“Jeffery’s Island is the perfect place to put up a new theme park”—was part of the invented story. It should not be read as a genuine Disney statement. Lead Stories
How the rumor spread
The Facebook post that circulated on April 10, 2024, presented the story through a screenshot and included the reaction, “I will no longer support anything about Disney.” That framing helped a parody item travel as if it were a real news report. Lead Stories noted that USA Today and Snopes also debunked the claim in April 2024. Lead Stories

Gizmodo separately mentioned an older rumor about a Disney cruise stop that had circulated in summer 2023. That earlier cruise-stop rumor is distinct from the April 2024 story claiming a purchase, park and cruise stop; neither account is evidence that Disney acquired or planned development on the island. What the island records do—and do not—show
A search-result extract from litigation in the U.S. Virgin Islands discusses Jeffrey Epstein’s Little St. James and neighboring Great St. James. It includes an allegation that Epstein’s enterprise acquired Great St. James in 2016. An allegation in a court filing is not, by itself, a judicial finding that proves every assertion in it. The extract provides no evidence of a Disney purchase. U.S. Virgin Islands case-filing search-result extract
