Disney content returned to Google’s video ecosystem after Google and Disney announced a new multi-year YouTube TV agreement on November 14, 2025. In the United States, Disney-owned live channels such as ABC, ESPN and FX returned to YouTube TV, while Disney movies and shows also began reappearing for purchase or rental on YouTube and Google TV. The change does not move Disney+ into YouTube, and it does not guarantee that every Disney title is available in every country or on every Google service.
The dispute mainly affected new transactions and service connections. Google said existing purchases and rentals remained accessible. Movies Anywhere synchronization was reported as expected to resume, but the result still depends on title eligibility, account linking and territory.
What came back—and where
“Disney content” describes several separate products. The return should be understood service by service:
| Service | What the dispute affected | What the return means |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | Live Disney-owned channels | Channels were restored under the new agreement, with local ABC availability rolling out as quickly as possible. |
| YouTube | Disney movies and shows offered for purchase or rental | Transactional listings began returning after the agreement. |
| Google TV | Google’s movie and television storefront and interface | Disney titles were reported available again for buying or renting. |
| Movies Anywhere | Synchronization of eligible Google purchases with the shared digital library | Google Play and YouTube support was expected to return; individual titles still require account-level verification. |
| Disney+ | Not part of the carriage or storefront dispute | It remains a separate subscription streaming service. |
The agreement covers a multi-year period, not a permanent guarantee. Channel lineups, local affiliates and digital catalogs can change by market, title, format and licensing window.

How the Google-Disney dispute unfolded
- October 30, 2025: The previous YouTube TV agreement expired. Disney-owned channels, including ABC, ESPN and FX, left the U.S. YouTube TV lineup.
- During the blackout: Disney movies and shows were also unavailable for new purchase or rental on YouTube. Google said existing purchases and rentals remained accessible, and it offered affected subscribers a one-time $20 credit.
- November 14, 2025: Google and Disney announced a new multi-year agreement. Google said existing recordings, preferences and recommendations would remain in place and that local ABC stations would return as quickly as possible.
- November 26, 2025: Reporting said Disney movies were appearing again on YouTube and Google TV. The same reporting said Google Play and YouTube purchases were expected to reconnect with Movies Anywhere.
The $20 credit was a historical remedy with a December 9, 2025 claim deadline. That deadline has passed, so it should not be treated as a current offer. Google’s announcement and dispute timeline are documented in its YouTube TV support announcement.
Can you buy Disney movies through Google TV or YouTube?
Reportedly, yes. Disney movies and some television programs returned as transactional listings rather than as part of a free YouTube catalog. Availability is title-specific and can differ between the YouTube and Google TV interfaces.

- Open YouTube or Google TV while signed in to the intended Google account.
- Search for the exact Disney title instead of relying only on a recommendation row.
- Check whether the listing offers Buy or Rent.
- Review the account and edition details before confirming payment.
- If cross-store access matters, check the title’s Movies Anywhere eligibility separately.
A listing returning does not mean every Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic or Hulu title is simultaneously available. Rights vary by country, release edition and licensing window. The November 26 storefront report is available from Thurrott; related timeline coverage appears at 9to5Google.
What happened to movies people already bought?
Existing purchases and rentals
Google said previously purchased and rented titles remained accessible during the dispute. A temporary removal of a new-sale listing therefore should not be interpreted as deletion of an existing license. Access still depends on using the original Google account, the title’s service support and availability in the viewer’s territory.

New purchases during the blackout
New Disney purchases and rentals were temporarily unavailable on YouTube. Once listings returned, buyers still needed to verify the specific title and edition before paying.
Movies Anywhere synchronization
Movies Anywhere is a Disney-operated digital-library service that can connect eligible movie purchases from participating retailers. The Google Play and YouTube connection was temporarily affected by the dispute and was reported as expected to return. The available announcement does not establish a universal completion date, so a missing title should be checked individually rather than assumed lost or fully synchronized.

What to check if a title is missing
Practical checks:
- Confirm that YouTube or Google TV is using the Google account that made the purchase.
- Look in both the YouTube Library and the Google TV purchase library.
- Search the title directly and check the country-specific listing.
- Determine whether the result is a purchase, rental or Disney+ subscription listing.
- Update the YouTube or Google TV app if the storefront appears stale.
- Sign out and back in, or restart the Google TV device, before assuming the catalog is missing.
- Do not buy the title again until the original account and purchase history have been checked.
If Movies Anywhere does not show the purchase
- Verify that the correct Google account is linked to the correct Movies Anywhere account.
- Check that the particular movie is eligible; television series and some branded titles do not qualify.
- Allow time for synchronization.
- Avoid repeatedly unlinking and relinking accounts, which can complicate troubleshooting.
- Contact Movies Anywhere support if an eligible title remains absent.
These are sensible account checks, not a guarantee that every title will synchronize.
What the return does not mean
- It is not a Disney+ migration. Disney+ remains a separate subscription service; its catalog is not being placed wholesale inside YouTube.
- It is not an unlimited catalog promise. “Disney content” includes different channel and transactional rights, and no single announcement guarantees every title everywhere.
- It is not identical availability worldwide. YouTube TV is being discussed here as a U.S. service, while digital storefront availability depends on country and licensing.
- It is not the same as physical ownership. A digital purchase grants access under the retailer’s license terms and depends on the account and supported service.
Which option fits which viewer?
| Option | Best fit | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | Viewers who want live ABC, ESPN, FX and other included channels. | It is primarily a live-TV subscription, not a way to build a Disney movie library. |
| Google TV or YouTube purchases | People who want individual films or episodes in Google’s ecosystem. | Prices, editions, availability and Movies Anywhere eligibility vary by title and region. |
| Movies Anywhere | Users consolidating eligible movie purchases from participating retailers. | It does not cover every title, television series or retailer, and synchronization depends on account links. |
| Disney+ | Frequent viewers who prefer a subscription catalog over buying films one at a time. | Requires an active subscription, and titles can rotate. |
Bottom line for Google and Disney users
The November 14, 2025 agreement resolved the YouTube TV channel dispute, and Disney transactional titles were reported back on YouTube and Google TV by November 26. Existing purchases were not simply erased, but Movies Anywhere restoration and title availability still need to be confirmed for the individual account, movie and country. Treat YouTube TV, YouTube, Google TV, Movies Anywhere and Disney+ as separate services with different rights.
