Spotify and Netflix announced on October 14, 2025, that selected video podcasts from Spotify Studios and The Ringer would be distributed on Netflix. The announced launch group contains 16 shows, with the United States first and additional markets planned. This is an additional outlet for specific programs—not a move of Spotify’s entire podcast catalog, and not evidence that Spotify is abandoning video.
What Spotify is bringing to Netflix
The agreement covers full video versions of selected shows. Spotify described the arrangement as reaching both Netflix and Spotify audiences; it did not announce a universal exclusivity policy, a catalog-wide transfer or the sale of The Ringer.
| Category | Shows in the announced launch group |
|---|---|
| Sports | The Bill Simmons Podcast; The Zach Lowe Show; The McShay Show; Fairway Rollin’; The Mismatch; The Ringer F1 Show; The Ringer Fantasy Football Show; The Ringer NFL Show; The Ringer NBA Show |
| Culture and lifestyle | The Rewatchables; The Big Picture; The Dave Chang Show; Recipe Club; Dissect |
| True crime | Conspiracy Theories; Serial Killers |

When and where are the shows available?
The announcement specified an initial United States rollout in early 2026, with more markets to follow. It did not give one universal launch date for every title or a complete international timetable. Netflix says availability, episode timing, languages and catalog size can vary by country.

How to find a video podcast on Netflix
- Open Netflix on a supported television, phone, tablet, computer or streaming device.
- Search for the exact show title, such as “The Rewatchables” or “The Bill Simmons Podcast.”
- If you do not know the title, search for podcast.
- Open the title page and check which episodes are listed and whether the title is available in your country.
- Check the displayed release information: Netflix notes that timing can depend on local or Pacific time.
Netflix also warns that audio and subtitle-language options may be limited. English subtitles are available at release or shortly afterward, according to the help page.

Does this mean Spotify is moving away from podcasts?
No such conclusion is supported by the announcement. Spotify presented Netflix as another way to reach audiences while continuing to serve Spotify listeners. Spotify is still promoting video podcast discovery, publishing and creator monetization through its creator platform.
That means the safest description is cross-platform distribution for selected video shows. Whether a particular program has an exclusive window, a different episode supply or a special release arrangement must be established title by title. The public announcement does not establish that every show is exclusive to Netflix, that video episodes were removed from YouTube, or that all audio episodes remain available on every service.

What “video podcast” means in this deal
These are not merely trailers. Spotify specifically referred to the full video versions of selected shows. Viewers can watch hosts, guests, studio footage, graphics and other visual elements, while audio-first listeners may continue using Spotify or another podcast app where the episode is offered.
The format sits between conventional podcast listening and television: recurring, personality-led episodes can be watched on a living-room screen without being produced as a traditional scripted series.

Why Netflix wants video podcasts
Netflix said it wants to entertain members “wherever and however they want to watch.” The selected programs give it recognizable hosts, sports communities, pop-culture discussion and true-crime programming that can arrive as recurring episodes rather than as a conventional Netflix series. Spotify said the partnership can give creators wider distribution and new audiences.
Beyond those stated reasons, the deal can be read as a strategic experiment. Netflix gains creator-led programming and another way to keep viewers engaged between major releases; it also tests whether video podcasts can function as a regular streaming category. That interpretation is not a disclosed contractual purpose, and the agreement’s financial terms were not published.

Why Spotify is participating
Distribution on Netflix can put Spotify-owned and Spotify-operated programs in front of people who do not browse podcast apps, while giving The Ringer’s shows another viewing environment. Spotify’s creator materials describe video as a core product opportunity, including eligible Premium video payouts and advertising tools.
Those Spotify programs have their own eligibility and market restrictions. Nothing in the public materials shows that every Netflix view automatically produces the same type of Spotify Partner Program payment. The commercial accounting, revenue share, advertising treatment and any minimum guarantees for this partnership remain undisclosed.
What viewers should expect
- A Netflix membership is required to watch Netflix programming; the available sources do not identify a separate podcast fee or podcast-specific plan.
- The Netflix selection is limited to named programs, not every Spotify podcast.
- Episode back catalogs, new-episode timing and the number of available episodes may differ by show.
- Netflix features should not be assumed to match Spotify’s podcast features, such as comments, polls, clips, notifications or personalized podcast recommendations.
- Country availability can differ, so a U.S. listing does not guarantee access elsewhere.
What the deal means for podcast creators
For creators, Netflix can add a large installed audience and make a podcast brand more visible to people who primarily watch television. It may also strengthen the case for designing shows as repeatable video franchises rather than treating video as an upload made only for YouTube.
The trade-off is platform fragmentation. A creator may have less control over discovery, audience data, release timing and monetization, and listeners may be unsure which service gets an episode first. Spotify’s public creator documentation explains its own analytics and monetization programs, but it does not disclose the terms governing this Netflix arrangement.

What is still unknown
- Whether any individual show has a Netflix-exclusive video window.
- Whether Netflix carries new episodes, a back catalog or both for each title.
- The exact release cadence and episode count by program.
- Whether all audio versions remain on every existing platform.
- Advertising, sponsorship, revenue-sharing and minimum-guarantee terms.
- Whether every title is available on every Netflix plan or profile in the United States.
- Whether distribution on YouTube changes for any show.
Bottom line for subscribers
Netflix is becoming an additional home for a carefully selected group of Spotify Studios and Ringer video podcasts. Use Netflix if you want these shows alongside films and series on a television-oriented service; use Spotify if you want a broader, podcast-focused library and Spotify’s listening and creator features. Neither subscription should be treated as a substitute for the other service’s entire catalog.
