Short answer: “Disney+ and Star+ prices increased” describes a historical Latin American story, not two separate services still receiving a joint price rise in 2026. Star+ launched as a standalone service on August 31, 2021, at approximately US$7.50 per month, while a Disney+/Star+ bundle was approximately US$9 per month in local-currency equivalents. Disney integrated Star entertainment and ESPN content into a redesigned Disney+ beginning June 26, 2024. The former standalone Star+ subscription no longer has a current Latin American price.
What the headline actually refers to
A price notice can mean several different things: a Disney+ plan increase, the old Star+ subscription, the Combo+ bundle, the post-2024 Disney+ tiers, or a charge changed by a tax, promotion, annual renewal, or billing partner. Latin America is not one pricing market. Disney says prices, currencies and third-party charges vary by territory (Disney’s regional pricing notice).
That is why an old dollar figure cannot be used to identify a current charge. First establish the country, plan name, billing company and date of the charge.
2021: Star+ launched as a separate service
Disney+ was already available in Latin America when Disney announced Star+, a complementary service for general entertainment and sports. Star+ launched in the region on August 31, 2021 (Disney Latin America launch announcement).

Disney described the figures as approximate rather than a universal regional tariff (Disney’s 2021 announcement). Star+ carried adult-oriented entertainment and sports, including ESPN-related programming. In countries where Star was placed inside Disney+ instead, customers did not see the same two-service structure; the Latin American separation explains why some subscribers remember both a Disney+ charge and a Star+ charge.
2024: Disney folded Star+ into Disney+
March announcement
On March 28, 2024, Disney announced a new Latin American Disney+ experience that would bring the Star catalog and ESPN content into one service (Disney announcement).

June 26 relaunch
The integrated Disney+ launched on June 26, 2024. Existing direct subscribers to Disney+, Star+ and Combo+ were moved into the new structure, with Premium access identified in Disney’s announcement. The exact migration, price and entitlement depended on country, plan and commercial partner (relaunch announcement).
What Premium was designed to add
- Star general-entertainment programming inside Disney+.
- ESPN content, with live channels and events determined by the local offer and tier.
- UHD/HDR and Dolby Atmos where supported.
- Up to four simultaneous devices, according to the regional plan description.
Those changes made the 2024 event a product restructuring as well as a pricing change. Star entertainment inside Disney+ is not the same thing as the former Star+ app and standalone subscription.

Does Star+ still have a standalone price?
No—not as the former standalone Latin American service. Disney’s financial reporting distinguishes the period before July 2024, when Disney+ and Star+ were separate services in Latin America, from the integrated model that followed (Disney’s fiscal 2024 reporting; 2024 annual report). A search for “Star+ price” now points to a Disney+ plan containing the former Star catalog and, depending on country and tier, ESPN—not to a new Star+ bill.
Current pricing: check the country and checkout page
There is no reliable single “Latin America price.” Promotions, taxes, currency conversion, annual billing and partner distribution can all change the amount shown. Disney’s live signup flow is the appropriate authority for the reader’s country and billing route.

Brazil: conflicting official Disney pages
Two official Brazil pages surfaced different retail figures:

United States prices are a different product structure
Disney’s U.S. help page lists bundle prices such as Disney+, Hulu and ESPN Select Basic at $19.99 monthly, Select Premium at $29.99, and Unlimited Basic at $35.99 (U.S. pricing help). Those are U.S. bundle figures and must not be substituted for Latin American Disney+/Star+ pricing.

- Country and taxes: local currency, VAT or other taxes can change the total.
- Billing provider: Apple, Google, Roku, a telecom operator, cable company or marketplace may set a different price or billing date.
- Promotion expiry: an introductory amount can renew at the then-current retail rate.
- Annual renewal: a yearly plan may renew at a newer price even if the original signup was cheaper.
- Migration: an old Disney+, Star+ or Combo+ subscription may have moved to a different tier.
- Partner entitlement: a telecom or loyalty package may include a specific tier rather than direct Disney billing.
Disney advises customers billed directly to review subscription charges in their account and notes that third-party prices can vary (unexpected-charge support; price support).
Check a disputed increase
- Open the Disney+ account page and record the plan name.
- Identify whether Disney or a third party issued the charge.
- Check the promotion end date and the next renewal date.
- Compare monthly and annual billing, including taxes.
- For partner billing, ask that provider about its price, cancellation terms and included tier.
How to decide whether to keep or change Disney+
- Content: keep it if your household regularly watches Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, Star entertainment or available ESPN programming.
- Sports: confirm that the events and live channels you want are included in your country and tier.
- Technical features: Premium may justify its higher cost if you need UHD/HDR, Dolby Atmos or four simultaneous streams.
- Ads: lower-priced tiers may include advertising and fewer premium capabilities.
- Billing: compare the complete recurring cost, renewal date and cancellation rules rather than only the advertised monthly number.
- Partner discounts: a telecom, marketplace or loyalty package may be cheaper, but verify eligibility and exactly which Disney+ tier it supplies.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Using the approximately US$7.50 Star+ launch price as a current price.
- Treating Latin America as one pricing market.
- Confusing an expiring promotion with a permanent increase.
- Assuming every legacy subscriber received identical migration terms.
- Using U.S. Disney Bundle prices for a Latin American decision.
- Describing the 2024 integration as only a surcharge while ignoring the new catalog, plans and ESPN structure.
- Ignoring who actually bills the subscription.
The Bottom Line
The old Star+ standalone price is historical. In Latin America, Star+ was launched separately in 2021 and integrated into Disney+ on June 26, 2024. To explain a current increase, check your country, Disney+ tier, promotion or annual renewal, and billing provider—then verify the amount in the official checkout or account page.
