The evidence shows a visible shift and a growing Swiftie community on Bluesky—not that Swifties as a whole left X, or that the trend persisted through October 2026.
What happened after the election?
On November 8, 2024, WIRED reported that Swifties were leaving X for Bluesky after Trump’s election victory. The timing connected the fan movement to a broader period of users reconsidering X, but the report described a visible community shift rather than a count of individual departures.
The community was not new. In a September 4, 2024 welcome guide, Bluesky noted that many Swifties used usernames ending in “swifties.social” and linked to a tool for setting that up. That pre-election reference shows fans had already established a presence there.
What the numbers do—and do not—show
On November 14, 2024, TechCrunch reported that nearly 13,000 people had signed up for the swifties.social domain, with sign-ups jumping after the election. That is an indicator of activity around a Swiftie-associated community, not a count of all Swifties on Bluesky or of people who left X.

Bluesky’s wider growth was much larger than that community measure. TechCrunch reported that the platform had gained 2 million users—about 15%—since Trump’s election win, as of its November 14 report. The Associated Press, reporting November 13, said Bluesky claimed it added 1 million users in the week after the election and had reached 15 million total users, up from roughly 13 million at October’s end. These are dated, platform-wide figures; they do not identify users’ previous platform or why they joined.
The period was not a simple one-way exodus. The Associated Press also reported X’s claims that new-user sign-ups rose 15.5% on Election Day and that the platform recorded 942 million posts worldwide. X’s claims concern sign-ups and posting volume, not proof of increased active users; they also do not disprove that some people moved to Bluesky.

Why were some Swifties moving?
Coverage placed the reported shift in the post-election context, including dissatisfaction among some X users with the platform and its owner Elon Musk’s support for Trump. That context helps explain why a move was discussed, but it does not establish one motive shared by all Swifties. Bluesky CEO Jay Graber welcomed incoming communities, saying, “We’re excited to welcome these communities to Bluesky, which range from Swifties to sports fans to journalists,” as quoted by TechCrunch on November 12, 2024. The statement recognizes multiple communities, not the scale or motivation of any one group.
Some fans also face a social cost when leaving a platform: a public discussion included people looking for Swiftie mutuals on Bluesky and a user describing years of friendships built through a Twitter feed. Those comments illustrate individual experiences, not representative survey results.

Did Taylor Swift herself move to Bluesky?
No cited report establishes that she did. Euronews reported on November 13, 2024 that Swift had not posted on X since October 15, 2024. That is a snapshot of her activity as of the article’s publication, not evidence of a move to Bluesky or of her current posting habits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How strong is the evidence for a lasting migration?
The evidence supports a narrow conclusion: some Swifties visibly joined or organized on Bluesky after the November 2024 election, and reporting documented that movement at the time. The available figures do not provide a representative survey, a count of individual fans who left X, a denominator for Swift’s fanbase, or a verified follow-up showing whether the shift continued through October 2026. Sign-ups, account totals, downloads, and post counts should not be treated as unique former-X users.
