What the report says happened
A 14 December 2025 report by AOL UK, citing RadarOnline, attributes the account to royal biographer Judy Wade. The report quotes Wade describing the episode as: “Diana and Dodi had a violent disagreement.” It says the disagreement took place on 30 August 1997, as the couple tried to avoid photographers.

According to the report’s account of Wade’s description, Dodi’s driver was urged to speed away, while Diana asked him to slow down. Wade is also quoted as saying, “Diana begged Dodi to slow down.” The report says Diana appeared upset afterward. These details, including the quoted words, should be understood as Wade’s account as relayed by the report—not as independently authenticated contemporaneous statements from Diana or Dodi. How firmly is the disagreement established?
The available report attributes the story to Wade and identifies her book as Diana: The Intimate Portrait. It does not, by itself, establish the episode as an official investigative finding. The evidence described here also does not establish whether the specific exchange was independently corroborated by witnesses or records.

The distinction matters: a biographer’s reported account can be relevant without being equivalent to an official inquiry’s conclusions or a verified transcript of what the people involved said. The account should therefore be attributed to Wade whenever it is described.
What official sources say about the crash
The Royal Family’s historical biography says Diana died following a car accident in Paris on 31 August 1997. Dodi Fayed and the driver also died; a bodyguard was seriously injured. The Royal Family’s biography of Diana, Princess of Wales summarizes those facts.

The reported disagreement is dated to 30 August, the day before the crash. That timing does not show that the argument caused, contributed to, or predicted the crash. The sources described here support reporting the disagreement only as an account attributed to Wade, separate from the official record of the accident and investigation.
