The claim is not verified. The available sources do not identify a final interview in which O.J. Simpson called Donald Trump his “wingman,” or provide a recording, transcript, or reliable direct report confirming that he did. Without that evidence, the headline should not be treated as a factual quotation.

What is—and is not—established about the claim

The wording that Simpson discussed Trump as his “wingman” has not been substantiated by the sources available for this account. They do not establish which interview the phrase refers to, whether Simpson used the word “wingman,” or what he may have said about Trump. The phrase could be a headline writer’s description rather than Simpson’s own words; there is no verified basis here to decide.

To confirm the claim, a reader would need the original interview recording or a complete transcript, along with its date and publisher. A reliable report directly quoting or accurately describing the relevant passage could also help establish what was said. Neither the interview’s identity nor the alleged Trump passage is confirmed by the sources cited here.

Why “final interview” can be misleading

Different kinds of last public appearances and private conversations are easy to confuse. They are not interchangeable: a social-media video is not necessarily an interview, and a final conversation with a lawyer is not a public interview.

A last public video is not proof of a final interview

Fact-checking site Full Fact reported that Simpson’s last public video was posted on February 11, 2024. Its report concerns false screenshots said to show final posts; it does not identify that video as an interview or verify the Trump claim. Full Fact’s account of the alleged final posts helps distinguish the last public video from an interview.

A final conversation with his lawyer is a separate account

The Associated Press reported that Simpson died at 76 in April 2024. His attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, described a last substantial conversation shortly before Easter, saying Simpson was “awake, alert and chilling” while watching television and catching up on news. That was a conversation with his lawyer—not evidence of an interview about Trump. Read the AP report.

Other reported interviews remain unconfirmed as the source

Search results have described an interview with Cam’ron and Ma$e as Simpson’s last interview, but the sources available here do not confirm that identification or show that Trump is discussed in it. It therefore cannot be presented as the interview behind the headline. CNN’s April 11, 2024 transcript covers a friend and filmmaker’s account of a final conversation shortly before Simpson’s death and video he had recorded of Simpson; the relevant material does not substantiate the “wingman” claim. Read the CNN transcript.

Historical interviews are not evidence for this claim

Simpson’s earlier television appearances should not be conflated with a purported final interview. PolitiFact notes that a television interview was planned in connection with his 2006 book If I Did It. That historical plan does not verify a late-life interview or the claim about Trump. PolitiFact’s fact-check addresses the separate 2006 material.

The Los Angeles Times archive also documents a January 1996 television interview in which Simpson again denied killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. It is historical background, not support for the “wingman” wording or a claim about his final interview. See the archived Los Angeles Times report.

What would verify the headline?

  • Identify the interview: establish its date, interviewer, and publisher rather than relying on the label “final interview.”
  • Check the original material: locate a complete recording or transcript, not an isolated clip or an unattributed paraphrase.
  • Verify the wording and context: determine whether Simpson himself said “wingman,” whether the word appears in a question, or whether it is the headline writer’s characterization.
  • Check the chronology: compare the interview date with other known public appearances before calling it his final interview.

Until those points are documented, the most accurate description is that the claim remains unsubstantiated—not that Simpson definitely said it, and not that he definitely did not.
