No. In season 1, episode 7, “Driftmark,” Laenor’s death is faked: the episode first shows a burned body that his parents believe is his, then reveals Laenor alive and sailing away with Ser Qarl Correy.

What happens to Laenor in “Driftmark”?

During the crisis on Driftmark, Laenor appears to be killed in a fight with Qarl. Corlys and Rhaenys find a burned body and take it to be their son. The closing scene overturns that belief: Laenor is alive and leaves by boat with Qarl.

That distinction explains the episode’s apparent contradiction. The characters have reason to think Laenor died, but viewers see that his death was staged. Sky’s episode guide identifies the installment as “Driftmark” and describes the twist.

Why does Laenor fake his death?

Laenor’s departure follows his sister’s death and a moment of reconsideration about the life he wants. Actor John MacMillan described it as a moment of clarity about becoming the person Laenor had imagined he could be. Showrunner Ryan Condal framed the choice as a bid to escape the constraints of noble status: “What Laenor really wanted was to be set free. And freedom to him is freedom from the bonds of his nobility.”

MacMillan put the turning point this way: “And I think he does have this moment of clarity where he goes, I’m going to be the person that I thought I was going to be.” Both statements are from Sky’s episode guide.

Where does Laenor go after leaving?

The final scene shows Laenor departing with Qarl. Sky says he is presumably beginning an anonymous life in Essos; the episode guide presents that destination as an assumption, not a confirmed account of what happens to him afterward.
