Yes. In a 2024 Good Bones renovation report, Karen E. Laine fell through a deteriorated floor while rotten boards were being removed at her Wilmington, North Carolina, project. The report says she was not injured; the incident also exposed a much larger potential job involving the floor system and foundation. This is the best-supported match for the headline, though the exact headline-to-episode connection has not been verified.
What happened during Karen Laine’s renovation?
PopCulture.com reported that the mishap occurred in season 9, episode 2, while Laine and the crew worked on a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house in Wilmington. As they removed rotten flooring from the house, which the report describes as built in the 1900s, the floor gave way beneath Laine. She was not hurt. Afterward, she said, “I’m fine, I landed on my squishy part.” PopCulture.com’s account of the incident is the principal report; the episode itself is not independently confirmed here.

Why did the fall make the project more complicated?
The damage raised concerns beyond replacing the visible flooring. PopCulture.com quotes Laine saying the floor system and foundation needed replacement. The report says the episode showed the house being lifted with a jack for foundation work, followed by a colorful redesign and a mural commissioned from a local artist.
The same report attributes an estimate of about $3,000 for a continuous-pour foundation to Laine. That is an estimate she reportedly gave for this project in the episode—not a current repair price, a general market rate, or a figure that can be applied to other houses.

Is this the same ‘Good Bones’ episode with the other demolition surprises?
Not necessarily. HGTV’s article “This Good Bones Episode is an Emotional Rollercoaster” describes a different renovation: Mina Starsiak and Laine work on the other half of a duplex, where demolition reveals a missing bathtub, a vanished accent wall, and objects falling from the ceiling. That story should not be merged with the reported Wilmington floor collapse; the available HGTV excerpt does not establish that it matches the headline.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement of the limited 2024 season describes Laine’s 120-year-old beach bungalow and says weather threatened the project. It provides broader season context, but does not confirm the floor-fall incident or identify the exact episode in question.

What is confirmed about the episode timing?
PopCulture.com said a follow-up episode was scheduled for August 28, 2024. Its details about the preceding episode’s date and weekday are internally questionable, so a precise original air date for the floor-fall episode cannot be stated confidently from that report.
