Yes—the North American theatrical return of Interstellar for its 10th anniversary took place in 2024. It is not an upcoming event. The sources available here do not confirm another future run or a current ticketed engagement, so check local exhibitor listings for any newly announced screenings.
When did the Interstellar re-release happen?
Christopher Nolan’s film returned to North American theaters in 2024 for its 10th anniversary. The Associated Press reported on the completed engagement on December 10, 2024, describing Nolan’s discussions with IMAX and Paramount about a proper North American anniversary rerelease. Earlier international rereleases included screenings in China and at London’s Science Museum, according to AP.

The available reporting does not establish the exact date the original schedule change was announced, the original and revised dates, or a definitive reason for the change. It also does not confirm a new theatrical date after the 2024 engagement.
How did the 2024 screenings perform?
AP reported that the 70mm IMAX film presentations sold out within minutes and that theaters added screenings after demand exceeded expectations. Its reported figures for that engagement were:
#1 Best Overall
- Interstellar [Blu-ray]
- $4.5 million from 166 screens in the United States and Canada.
- $70,000 per theater on average across 10 70mm IMAX film screens.
These are AP’s figures for the 2024 engagement, not current box-office totals or worldwide rerelease results. The report does not give a separate count for all showings.
What formats were used?
Paramount’s December 2014 release announcement lists 70mm IMAX film, 70mm film, and 35mm film among the film’s original presentation formats. It says more than an hour of the movie was shot using IMAX cameras and that sequences shot in 35mm were digitally remastered for IMAX presentation. The same announcement reported that the film had earned more than $100 million in IMAX theaters worldwide at that time; that is an original-release-era milestone, not a figure for the 2024 return.
Rank #2
- Genre: Science Fiction
- Number of Discs: 3
- Number of Tracks: 0
- Playback Duration: 169
- Rating: PG13
For the anniversary engagement, AP specifically reported 70mm IMAX film presentations. A screening’s format depends on the actual venue and booking, so a listing that simply says “IMAX” should not be assumed to mean a 70mm film presentation.
Are tickets available for another screening?
No further run or current ticketed engagement is confirmed by the sources cited here. If you are looking for a screening now, check current listings from local theaters and IMAX venues; verify the date, venue, presentation format, and ticket availability directly with the exhibitor.
How can I watch it at home?
AP reported that Nolan approved a new 4K UHD Interstellar set. That offers a physical home-viewing option, but AP’s report does not establish its current stock, price, or edition contents. It is a home format, not a substitute for a theater screening.
