Public accounts of Mohammed bin Salman’s lifestyle mix dated reports about private luxury purchases with the far larger, institutional power of his role as Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The distinction matters: a 2018 account of his work routine and older reporting about a yacht, a French château and a disputed painting do not establish what he owns today. Nor are assets managed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) his personal property.

What was Mohammed bin Salman’s reported daily routine?

A 2018 60 Minutes interview offers a snapshot, not a current schedule. Asked about his workday, he said, “Oh, I come here, at, like afternoon till late night.” CBS News reported that he spent most evenings at Irgah Palace in Riyadh. The account presents a work-centered routine at that time; it does not establish his present-day hours or private habits. CBS News, 2018.

Does Mohammed bin Salman own a yacht or a French château?

Current ownership is not established by the available reporting. In a 2017 story, CBS News relayed claims from earlier reporting that the Crown Prince had “recently purchased a yacht for a half-billion dollars, along with a French chateau.” That is an attributed report of a purchase, not a current ownership record or independently verified valuation. The approximately half-billion-dollar figure refers to the reported yacht transaction; it should not be read as a confirmed present value. CBS News, 2017.

Who owns the Salvator Mundi?

The accounts cited in a 2018 TIME interview transcript do not settle the painting’s ownership. The transcript refers to a New York Times report identifying Mohammed bin Salman as the original buyer at auction, while also noting the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s statement that Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism acquired the painting. The reported auction price was $450.3 million, but neither the buyer’s identity nor subsequent ownership should be presented as a confirmed personal holding on this evidence. The sources cited do not establish that the painting is aboard a yacht. TIME, April 2018.

In that interview, Mohammed bin Salman addressed scrutiny of wealth by saying: “In my interview with ‘60 Minutes’ I said that being rich is not crime. The crime is to be corrupt. And if I am corrupt please show me the proof.” The statement records his response; it does not prove or resolve claims about particular purchases. TIME, April 2018.

How is his public role different from personal wealth?

Mohammed bin Salman’s leadership role helps explain why stories about private wealth can blur into accounts of state power. Human Rights Watch’s 2024 report says he has chaired the PIF board since 2015 and chairs the Council of Economic and Development Affairs, which has responsibility for Vision 2030. The report describes the fund’s expansion as consolidating substantial economic power. These are institutional responsibilities and investments: the PIF’s assets are not evidence of the Crown Prince’s personal possessions or net worth. Human Rights Watch, 2024.

What does a lavish royal welcome show?

Public ceremony provides evidence of royal display, but not private ownership. In its account of President Donald Trump’s Riyadh visit on May 13, 2025, the Associated Press described a lavish welcome given by the Crown Prince, with golden chairs beneath elaborate chandeliers and a traditional honor guard. Those details document the official event and setting; they do not establish that the furnishings belonged to him personally or describe his private home. Associated Press, May 13, 2025.

How much is Mohammed bin Salman worth?

The sources cited here do not establish a reliable personal net-worth estimate or a complete, current asset list. Older reports about a yacht, château and painting remain attributed claims with unresolved details; PIF holdings and Saudi state wealth cannot be substituted for a personal valuation. Any figure presented as a confirmed net worth would go beyond this evidence.
