Verdict: Mostly misleading. Elon Musk did say in 2021 that his primary home was a roughly $50,000 house in Boca Chica, Texas, which he rented from SpaceX. But the newer claim that he “opened the doors” for a verified home tour and lived there with all 12 of his children is not substantiated by the available evidence.
Where the claim came from
The headline comes from a Daily Galaxy article published on February 5, 2025. Its wording suggests a recent tour of Musk’s home and presents the house as a tiny $50,000 residence shared with his children.
However, the article primarily recycles an older statement from Musk rather than documenting a new house opening. It does not provide a clearly dated video, interview, floor plan, first-party interior reveal, lease, property record or company confirmation establishing all of the headline’s details.

According to the report, Musk wrote on June 9, 2021:

“My primary home is literally a ~$50k house in Boca Chica / Starbase that I rent from SpaceX.”
That statement supports a narrower claim: in 2021, Musk said he primarily used an inexpensive house near SpaceX’s Boca Chica operations and rented it from the company. It does not prove that he still lives there in 2026, that he owned the property, or that his children lived there with him.
Was it a Boxabl Casita?
The Daily Galaxy article identifies the home as a Boxabl prefab unit, often described as a “Casita.” That identification has been widely associated with Musk’s Boca Chica residence, but the evidence available here does not independently confirm the exact model, the specific unit, its ownership or its current location.

The careful description is therefore that the home was reported to be a Boxabl-style prefabricated unit. Promotional photographs of a Boxabl product would not, by themselves, prove that the pictured unit was Musk’s actual residence.

How large was the house?
The article reports two figures: approximately 377 square feet of interior space and a footprint of 20 by 20 feet. Those numbers should not be treated as identical. A 20-by-20-foot square equals 400 square feet before accounting for wall thickness or differing measurement conventions, while the 377-square-foot figure may refer to interior living area or an estimate.
Neither measurement is independently confirmed by a first-party floor plan or building record in the evidence available.
Was it really a $50,000 home?
The $50,000 figure appears to be Musk’s approximate description, not a documented closing price or complete housing budget. “About $50,000” could refer to a base unit, an estimated value or a rounded figure rather than the total cost of making a residence ready for use.

The article also reports that Musk paid $250 per month in rent to SpaceX, but it provides no lease or SpaceX confirmation. That figure should be treated as an attributed claim, not an independently established fact.

Did Musk live there with 12 children?
This is the least supported part of the headline. The evidence does not show that all 12 of Musk’s living children resided in the house, either full-time or simultaneously. There is no documented household arrangement, custody information or statement from Musk or the children’s mothers confirming that claim.
“Lives with” can also mean different things, from occasional visits to full-time cohabitation. The headline strongly implies that Musk and all of his children shared the small house as a normal full-time household, but the article does not demonstrate that.
Family arrangements are private, and the available evidence does not justify publishing more precise claims about where individual children live.

That makes “opens the doors” misleading. The phrase turns an old statement about Musk’s reported residence into the impression of a new, visual disclosure. The available evidence supports saying that the headline claims there was an opening or tour—not that one has been verified.
Where was the house?
The residence was reported to be near SpaceX’s facilities in Boca Chica, an area now associated with Starbase, Texas. Boca Chica Village, the Starbase facilities and the wider Cameron County area are not interchangeable descriptions of a specific property.
An exact address should not be published. Musk has a high security profile, and the story involves children. A general location is sufficient to explain the claim without identifying a private home.
