Universal Music Canada announced a new track by Eilish and her brother Finneas in April 2026. A May WIRED interview that may have sparked the question was about where future breakout artists might come from—not about Eilish retiring.
Why people are asking whether Billie Eilish quit music
The confusion appears to stem from a WIRED interview about Eilish’s early experience putting music on SoundCloud and how new artists might be discovered. When asked about the next “Billie Eilish,” she was discussing the next artist to emerge or achieve similar success, not announcing that she would stop making music. WIRED’s May 8, 2026 interview and its accompanying article put the comment in that context.

“I don’t know where the next whoever is gonna come from and I can’t wait to see them and I can’t wait to cheerleader them, whoever it may be.”
The interviewer’s question concerns where the next breakout artist might be found. The reviewed sources do not contain a direct, unambiguous statement from Eilish that she is retiring or quitting music.

That is evidence of recent music activity; it does not establish what she will release in the future. Universal Music Canada’s announcement includes a listening link.
