The festival announcement confirms the premiere, but does not give the film’s individual screening date, time or venue.
When is the Dew Drop Inn documentary screening?
The New Orleans Film Festival is scheduled for October 22–27, 2026. The New Orleans Film Society lists Dew Drop Inn — Resistance and Resilience among the festival’s world premieres, but the available announcements do not identify a specific screening slot. Check the film announcement and the New Orleans Film Society for program updates; a festival-wide announcement alone does not establish that tickets for this particular film are on sale.
What is the documentary about?
The film focuses on the Dew Drop Inn’s history as a New Orleans hotel and music venue. Michael Murphy Productions says the Inn was founded in 1939 by Black entrepreneur Frank Painia, and frames its story around music, Black entrepreneurship, civil rights, resistance and resilience. The year and founding account are those given in the film announcement.
Local reporting connects the venue with the rise of rhythm and blues and artists including Fats Domino, Irma Thomas and Allen Toussaint. In a statement reproduced by Where Y’at, producer Cilista Eberle described the Inn as a place where Black entrepreneurship created space for music, challenged barriers and made community a form of resistance. The statement places the venue at the intersection of rhythm and blues, civil rights and the fight for integration.

Is this the same as an earlier Dew Drop Inn film project?
No. Tulane University Libraries documents an earlier, unfinished project titled The Legend of The Dew Drop Inn, by Julia Dorn, based on footage shot in 2004 and early 2005. That archival project is distinct from Murphy’s newly announced documentary, Dew Drop Inn — Resistance and Resilience.
