Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 was confirmed in December 2024 and released in 2025. It is no longer an upcoming project: the sequel is available across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and Steam, with release dates varying by region and platform.
When was The Hinokami Chronicles 2 confirmed?
SEGA announced the sequel on December 9, 2024, initially targeting a 2025 release in North America and Europe. The phrase “Finally Confirmed” reflects that announcement, not a new confirmation. SEGA’s announcement also described it as a follow-up to the first arena fighter.

#1 Best Overall
- It is the Taisho Period in Japan; Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon
- Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon that massacred his family
- Follow Tanjiro through the story from the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime as he faces demons in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has become a demon, back into a human
- Master the multitude of spectacular skills of a wide roster of characters from the anime, including Tanjiro and Nezuko, to overcome challengers in head-to-head battle, locally and online
What story and modes does the sequel include?
Story arcs
The story mode follows Tanjiro through three arcs from the anime: Entertainment District, Swordsmith Village and Hashira Training. The game also includes a mode revisiting the first Hinokami Chronicles story. Aniplex’s product description outlines the sequel’s story, while SEGA’s features announcement describes the recap mode.
Versus roster and new features
Versus mode features more than 40 playable characters, including all nine Hashira, according to Aniplex’s launch notice. SEGA’s feature announcement also describes Dual Ultimates, gear customization and Training Paths. These are publisher-described features, not independent assessments of how they play.

What editions and post-launch content should buyers know about?
SEGA’s 2025 Western announcement listed historical UK recommended prices of £54.99 for standard physical and digital editions and £64.99 for Digital Deluxe. Those were launch-era UK prices, not current prices or a guide to other regions. The same announcement described limited-time launch-version character unlock keys and digital pre-order items and early access; those were time-limited offers, not current purchase benefits. SEGA’s release announcement has the original terms.
Aniplex’s August 2025 launch notice mentioned a free Muzan update and a paid Infinity Castle Chapter One character pass. That notice does not establish the complete current DLC catalog, 2026 prices or present availability in each region. Check the relevant platform store for current listings and prices before buying additional content. Aniplex’s launch notice.

How successful was the first game?
The four-million figure belongs to the original The Hinokami Chronicles, not the sequel. SEGA said in December 2024 that cumulative physical shipments and digital copies sold for the first game exceeded four million units worldwide. SEGA’s announcement states the figure; it should not be read as a sales total for The Hinokami Chronicles 2.
