Zenitsu Agatsuma ranked first in the second official Weekly Shonen Jump character popularity poll, with 17,451 votes. The ranking below is the poll’s 2020 top ten, not a measure of global opinion or current 2026 sentiment. It is based on poll results reported by Animate Times in July 2026.
Spoiler warning: The ranking and character details below may reveal developments from the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga and anime.
The 10 most popular characters in the 2020 Weekly Shonen Jump poll

The table compares the vote totals and placements reported for each poll; the 2017 and 2020 totals should not be read as a direct measure of rising or falling popularity. The polls took place at different points in the manga’s publication and had different ballot participation. The first poll also included series creator Koyoharu Gotouge, a non-character entry.

A separate 2020 survey asked a different audience
LINE Research published another snapshot on December 11, 2020, based on 1,054 people in Japan aged 15–59 surveyed on December 8–9. It asked respondents which character they liked best and why. Tanjiro was first overall; among women, Tanjiro and Nezuko were tied at the top. The summary also placed Giyu third, Zenitsu fourth and Shinobu fifth, and reported that Rengoku was especially popular among people who had seen the theatrical film. See LINE Research’s survey summary.
This was not another Weekly Shonen Jump poll: it used a specified Japan-based age group and a different question. Its results provide context, but should not be combined with the magazine poll’s rankings.

What this ranking can—and cannot—tell you
- It identifies the 2020 poll’s top ten. Zenitsu led the second official Weekly Shonen Jump character poll, according to the results reported by Animate Times.
- It captures one point in time. The changes between 2017 and 2020 are observed differences, not proof that particular story developments caused characters to gain or lose support.
- It is not a current 2026 fan vote. Animate Times’ July 2026 article recaps the first two official polls; the latest official poll identified here is from 2020.
- It is not a universal fan ranking. Poll participants, timing and method matter, as the distinct LINE Research survey illustrates.
