Spoilers ahead: This guide names the film’s Void arrivals, villainous mutant lineup and third-act returns. It covers notable, named Marvel character appearances—not every indistinct background figure, blink-and-you-miss-it variant or reference.
Deadpool & Wolverine brings together characters from several separate screen franchises, not just the MCU. Its major appearances range from Happy Hogan and multiple Wolverine variants to the resistance fighters Elektra, Blade, Gambit and X-23. Director Shawn Levy prefers to call many of them “surprises,” and said they had to serve the story rather than distract from Deadpool and Wolverine’s relationship.

How to read this cameo guide
There is no single official exhaustive count of the film’s cameos. Lists differ over background figures, variants, corpses and brief montage glimpses, so the guide below focuses on notable, named appearances and identifies particularly ambiguous cases separately.
The film was released in 2024. D23 described it at the time as Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film, while Kevin Feige called it the studio’s 34th film that July; those are release-era descriptions, not statements about the current MCU phase. D23’s announcement and Feige’s interview with The Walt Disney Company give that context.

Early appearances and multiverse glimpses
Happy Hogan
Jon Favreau returns as Happy Hogan early in the film, when Deadpool approaches him about joining the Avengers. The scene connects Wade to the MCU without turning the earlier Fox superhero franchises into MCU continuity.
Wolverine variants
Deadpool’s search for a replacement Wolverine produces several versions of the character, including one played by Hugh Jackman and a variant played by Henry Cavill—a fan-casting joke. Another quick glimpse pairs a Wolverine variant with the Hulk. TIME speculates that the Hulk is Edward Norton’s version, but the film does not confirm that identification.
Who arrives in the Void?
The Void’s arrivals are the film’s most substantial reunion of characters from earlier superhero movies. Some join the resistance; others serve Cassandra Nova. Their appearances draw on continuities that existed before, or outside, the MCU.
Resistance and allies
| Character | Performer | Earlier screen role and appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Johnny Storm / Human Torch | Chris Evans | Evans reprises the Human Torch from the earlier Fantastic Four films—not Steve Rogers or Captain America. He appears in the Void. |
| Elektra | Jennifer Garner | Garner returns from Daredevil and Elektra as a member of the Void resistance. |
| Blade | Wesley Snipes | Snipes returns as the vampire hunter from the earlier Blade films and joins the resistance. TIME records the line, “There’s only ever been one Blade. There only ever going to be one Blade.” |
| Gambit / Remy LeBeau | Channing Tatum | Tatum plays the long-developed but unrealized solo-film version of Gambit. This is not Taylor Kitsch’s portrayal in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Gambit charges objects—often playing cards—with kinetic energy. |
| X-23 / Laura Kinney | Dafne Keen | Keen returns from Logan as a resistance member whose connection to Wolverine makes her role part of the film’s legacy story. |
Cassandra Nova’s mutant forces
The returning adversaries include Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) and Toad (Ray Park), all associated with the original Fox X-Men films. Sabretooth is set up for a rematch with Wolverine. Colossus (Stefan Kapičić), familiar from the Deadpool films, is also included among Cassandra Nova’s recruited mutants.
The wider lineup features Psylocke, Azazel, Lady Deathstrike, Callisto and Juggernaut; not all of their earlier performers return. The Russian, a character from The Punisher, is another member of the antagonistic group.
Deadpool variants and other brief appearances
Deadpool Corps
The Deadpool Corps includes a crowd of variants rather than conventional guest roles. Among the celebrity-linked versions are Lady Deadpool, played by Blake Lively, and Cowboy Deadpool, voiced by Matthew McConaughey. Dogpool and other variants also appear as part of the group.
Hulk glimpse and Ant-Man remains
A brief Hulk appearance is included in GameSpot’s guide, but its identity is not established here. The Void also features the remains of a giant Ant-Man as part of the setting. TIME notes that the film does not explain which Ant-Man variant it is or what happened to him. Whether a corpse or short background glimpse counts as a cameo depends on how narrowly the term is being used.

Levy has explained that the film’s irreverent, self-aware tone is meant to preserve Deadpool’s identity while keeping the relationship between the two title characters at the center. In an interview with The National, he summed up the selection rule: “Never let temptation supersede storytelling.” He added, “And that’s why we don’t call them cameos. They’re more surprises – they’re characters that are surprising.”
Executive producer Wendy Jacobson described the team’s intent this way: “They’re there to serve a crucial story purpose and have a very strong beginning, middle and end arc.” Levy said the appearances connect to “the central theme of wanting to matter, of legacy, and of redemption.” That framing helps explain why the film gives some returning characters real dramatic roles, while others appear for a quick joke or multiverse reveal.
The source franchises matter: Happy Hogan and the Ant-Man remains connect to the MCU; several mutants come from Fox’s X-Men films and Logan; Johnny Storm comes from the earlier Fantastic Four movies; and Blade, Elektra and The Russian draw on distinct earlier film series. Calling the whole group “old MCU characters” would blur those differences.
