Todd Meadows, a 25-year-old deckhand on the crab boat Aleutian Lady, died on February 25, 2026, after falling overboard in the Bering Sea. The U.S. Coast Guard says the crew recovered him unresponsive about ten minutes after the fall was reported, and resuscitation attempts failed. The Coast Guard has announced a marine casualty investigation. The cause of death listed on his death certificate, as reported by the Los Angeles Times, is drowning with probable hypothermia and submersion in cold water. Whether the investigation has produced findings is not established in the reporting available for this article.
What happened on February 25, 2026
The Aleutian Lady is a vessel featured on the Discovery series Deadliest Catch. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the fall was reported from a position about 170 miles (274 kilometers) north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The crew recovered Meadows roughly ten minutes after the report and found him unresponsive. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

The Coast Guard investigation
The Coast Guard announced a marine casualty investigation on March 4, 2026. Such investigations are the agency’s formal process for examining maritime incidents. Based on the reporting available for this article, it is not established whether the investigation has concluded or what it found. The family’s request about footage
The Los Angeles Times reported that Meadows’s mother asked that footage of the death not be broadcast. The reporting does not say whether that request has been honored or how any footage would be handled, so this article does not describe any such footage.
