Johnny Depp appears with a noticeably different look in the official teaser for Day Drinker, a thriller set aboard a private yacht. He plays Kelly, a mysterious guest whose arrival draws a yacht bartender into a dangerous connection with a criminal figure. The film is currently listed for a wide theatrical release on March 26, 2027, though that date is not confirmed for every territory.
What the first look shows
Depp’s official website identifies the clip as the “OFFICIAL TEASER,” names his character as Kelly and lists the film’s theatrical date. The image and teaser introduce his appearance in the role, but the available official description does not establish a specific plot twist or explain the character’s history. You can view the teaser through Depp’s official website or find the trailer and film details at the official film site.
What is Day Drinker about?
The story begins on a private yacht, where a bartender meets a mysterious guest. Their lives become unexpectedly connected to a criminal figure. The Spanish distributor’s synopsis adds that the bartender has lost the love of her life, while the film’s English-language synopsis describes the encounter and criminal entanglement without that detail.
Cast and characters
- Johnny Depp plays Kelly, the mysterious guest.
- Madelyn Cline plays the yacht bartender.
- Penélope Cruz is identified with the criminal figure in the Spanish distributor’s synopsis.
Who made the film?
Marc Webb directs Day Drinker from a screenplay by Zach Dean. Diamond Films España credits Javier Aguirresarobe with cinematography and Kevin Greutert and Bomber Hurley Smith with editing. Its listed composers are Roland Heap, Hillary Holmes, Raúl Nácher and Rich Walters. Producers named by the distributor are Zach Dean, Basil Iwanyk, Nathan Kahane, Adam Kolbrenner and Erica Lee. Rotten Tomatoes lists Lionsgate as distributor and Thunder Road Pictures as a production company.
#1 Best Overall
The film was shot in Spain. In an April 2025 report on the start of filming, Cadena SER attributed this comment to Webb: “Estamos en un lugar hermoso, con un equipo fantástico y una historia feroz y emocionante que contar. Esto va a ser divertido”. In English: “We are in a beautiful place, with a fantastic team and a fierce and exciting story to tell. This is going to be fun.”
When does Day Drinker come out?
Johnny Depp’s official website and Rotten Tomatoes currently list March 26, 2027, as the wide theatrical release date. That listing should not be assumed to apply worldwide: Diamond Films España announced the Spanish title Sed de Sangre on September 25, 2026, but described its local release only as “coming soon.”
