David said he had kept the original on his playlist since it came out and asked Romany to try it. In comments reproduced by Premier Guitar, he said, “I realised that Romany has exactly the right sort of vulnerability and youth for the song.” That is Gilmour’s explanation of the casting, not an objective description of her performance.
He also recalled asking her to sing while she was working on an essay and catching a train. Gilmour said, “OK, I’ll sing it once, put the mic on,” and that “90 percent of the finished vocal” came from that take, as reported by Premier Guitar.

Is “Between Two Points” a cover?
Yes. Gilmour’s recording reworks a 1999 song by The Montgolfier Brothers. Sony Music credits Mark Tranmer, a member of the duo, with the music and Roger Quigley with the lyrics. Tranmer praised the new version in a statement reproduced by Premier Guitar: “David and Romany’s version of our song is a great arrangement and production.”
The available credits establish the relationship and the performers, but do not by themselves settle detailed comparisons such as differences in tempo, key, or structure.

How did Romany become part of Luck and Strange?
Sony Music says some contributions to the album grew from family livestreams during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns. Romany’s voice and harp in those streams helped lead to her being featured on the record. Her role on “Between Two Points” is therefore part of a broader family contribution to the album, rather than a guest vocal alone.
When was the song released?
David Gilmour’s official site announced “Between Two Points” as the second single from Luck and Strange on June 17, 2024. The album followed on September 6, 2024. The artist’s site announced an official lyrics video on July 12, 2024.
