What cancer was Dave Coulier diagnosed with?
Coulier said he was diagnosed with early-stage oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma at the base of his tongue in October 2025. It was a second, separate cancer following his 2024 diagnosis of non-Hodgkin lymphoma—not, according to his account and later reporting, a recurrence of that lymphoma. He announced the tongue-cancer diagnosis in December 2025. CURE’s January 8, 2026 interview is a first-person account from while he was undergoing treatment.
How was the second cancer found?
A routine PET scan to check his lymphoma prognosis showed an area in his throat. Initial samples did not reveal an abnormality, but swelling persisted. Further scans and evaluation led his doctors to suspect carcinoma. Coulier said he underwent robotic surgery to remove tissue at the base of his tongue for diagnosis and treatment.
He credited the scan and early detection, saying, “That PET scan and early detection … saved my life.” That is his reflection on his own case, not a general guarantee about what a scan can detect or the outcome for other patients.

What treatment and side effects did he describe?
In the January 2026 CURE interview, Coulier said his plan included 35 radiation treatments and that he was at treatment 20 of 35 when he spoke. He reported fatigue, loss of taste, numbness in his mouth, facial discomfort, mouth sores and ear pain. These were the effects he personally described during treatment.
What did Coulier say about remission and recovery?
February 4, 2026: remission from both cancers
On February 4, 2026, Coulier told ABC News’ Good Morning America that he was in remission from both cancers. He described the tongue cancer as unrelated to his earlier lymphoma and said the PET scan and early detection helped find it. “I’m in remission with both cancers. And what a journey this has been,” he said. ABC News reported his statement and his encouragement to discuss concerns with doctors and keep up with appropriate checkups.

May 9, 2026: significant effects from radiation
In a later ABC News update dated May 9, 2026, Coulier said extensive radiation had left him unable to eat solid food for months. He reported losing 45 pounds and experiencing changes in his speech. He also said recent scans and his prognosis looked positive for both cancers. That report describes his update at that time; it does not establish his health status indefinitely.
