The episode leaves the identity of the person ultimately holding Bernadette unresolved. A recap speculates that it must be Budge, but that is an inference, not a confirmed identification in the episode’s ending. The clear on-screen turn is Garza’s betrayal and Bernadette’s capture.
Does Episode 7 reveal what will happen to Bernadette?
No. The episode ends on a cliffhanger and does not show whether Bernadette escapes or is rescued. AMC+’s listing for Season 3, Episode 8 carries the danger forward: “Bernadette fights for her life after coming face-to-face with the truth.” That establishes the finale’s starting predicament, not the outcome of her story in Episode 7.

The finale, Season 3’s eighth episode, was announced for April 27, 2025. Episode 7 aired April 20, 2025, and is titled “T’áá Áłts’íísígo (Just a Small Piece).” AMC’s Dark Winds episode listings provide the official series and episode context.
Why did Bernadette trust Garza?
Bernadette’s Border Patrol investigation has brought her toward a suspected smuggling operation involving Spencer and compromised colleagues. The episode recap reports that she suspects agent Ivan Muños and commander Ed Henry are connected to Spencer, while believing Ivan may be prepared to leave the operation. She turns to Garza for help with the warrant, but the decision puts her within reach of the betrayal.

Those suspicions are part of the episode’s unfolding investigation, not proof that every suspected colleague has been shown to be involved. What the ending confirms is that Garza turns against Bernadette.
What happens in Leaphorn and Chee’s parallel investigation?
While Bernadette’s story ends in immediate danger, Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee advance the case connected to the dig site. The episode recap says their investigation shifts away from an apparent supernatural threat and toward Dr. Reynolds, a researcher whose fabricated arrowhead supports his research. According to that recap, Reynolds killed Ernesto after Ernesto and George uncovered the deception.

This case’s progress does not resolve Bernadette’s capture: the two plotlines reach different points in the same episode, with the dig-site mystery moving toward a human explanation and Bernadette’s fate left open.
