The first reactions to Daredevil: Born Again were largely positive: critics praised its gritty tone, intense action and the chemistry between Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. But the reactions were based on only the first two episodes, so they are an early impression—not a verdict on the full season.
What did critics think of the first two episodes?
Rotten Tomatoes’ first-reactions roundup, updated May 1, 2025, collected critics’ responses after they had seen the first two episodes. The recurring positives were the series’ connection to the earlier Daredevil, its street-level intensity, its lead performances and the charged rivalry between Daredevil and Kingpin. Some individual reactions ranked it among Marvel’s best television work, but those comments are personal assessments, not an objective ranking or an aggregate score. Rotten Tomatoes’ roundup offers the reactions in context.

The caveats matter just as much: some critics described a rough opening, pacing problems, uneven action, weak visual-effects moments or doubts about character credibility. One reaction also noted that there was not much action yet. With only two episodes available to critics, the reactions could not establish whether the season maintained its momentum.
Is it as gritty as the Netflix Daredevil?
Early reactions generally said the new series felt connected to the earlier show’s tone and returned to intense, gritty action. That is a qualitative impression, not a claim that every episode matches the predecessor in style or staging. The same roundup includes criticism of some action and an observation that the opening had relatively little of it, so the early picture is not uniformly explosive.
#1 Best Overall
The series continues the story of Matt Murdock, the lawyer who operates as Daredevil, and Wilson Fisk, his adversary known as Kingpin. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio return in those roles. Disney’s feature also identifies familiar characters Karen Page, Foggy Nelson and Frank Castle, alongside newer characters Kirsten McDuffie and Heather Glenn. Disney’s series feature provides the official character context.
Is the story worth following?
The premise gives the rivalry more than a straightforward hero-versus-villain shape: the story involves vigilantes, police, guilt, political power and corruption. Early responses praised the character focus and found the story intriguing, while concerns about pacing and character credibility point to areas where the first episodes did not convince everyone.

One critic suggested reading the Devil’s Reign comic as a refresher. Treat that as optional background, not required preparation: the reactions do not establish that the series directly adapts the comic. You can follow the basic setup through Matt and Fisk’s conflict without reading it.
How is the action, and what are the main criticisms?
The strongest early praise described the action as intense and gritty, in keeping with the franchise’s street-level approach. The counterpoint is that reactions were mixed on execution: some cited sloppy action or weak visual-effects moments, and at least one critic said the first episodes had not offered much action yet. Those observations describe specific early responses; they do not prove that the same issues define the complete season.

The 2025 reactions should be kept separate from the show’s current viewing context. Disney+ is the official streaming destination. Its season 2 guide says the season premiered March 24, 2026, streams exclusively on Disney+ and has eight episodes. The guide describes Mayor Wilson Fisk hunting Daredevil as Matt Murdock fights back against Fisk’s corrupt empire. Disney+’s season 2 guide has the current season details.
