Spoilers for “Straight to Hell,” the season-one finale of Daredevil: Born Again.
“Straight to Hell” is an exciting finale because it brings the series back to what makes Daredevil compelling: bruised relationships, New York street-level stakes and a hard choice about how to resist power. It gives Matt and Karen a clear next step without pretending they have defeated Wilson Fisk. The episode makes a persuasive case for a season-two resistance story, even if the season’s late coherence also throws its earlier unevenness into sharper relief.

What happens in the Daredevil: Born Again finale?
“Straight to Hell,” season 1, episode 9, opens on the Black and White Ball, revisiting Bullseye’s shooting of Matt before stepping back a year. The flashback reveals Vanessa Fisk arranging Benjamin Poindexter’s release in exchange for help silencing Foggy Nelson and a witness. Her reference to Agent Nadeem and the FBI corruption scandal reconnects the story to the third season of the earlier Daredevil series.
In the present, Matt and Frank Castle reunite. The episode does not rush into the full Matt-versus-Fisk rematch; instead, it turns toward the scale of Fisk’s growing control and Matt’s response to it. Matt tells Karen they need to raise an army. In the final scene, Josie’s Bar becomes a gathering point for Karen, Cherry, Detective Angie Kim, Josie and other possible allies.

Does the finale stick the landing?
It brings the season into focus
The season has had to balance a legal, case-of-the-week structure with a more serialized continuation of the Netflix-era Daredevil. The Ringer’s account of the final two episodes argues that they return the show to its central ongoing conflict and help the larger narrative cohere. “Straight to Hell” supports that reading: its flashback supplies connective tissue, while its ending gives Matt and Karen a shared objective.
That late clarity is satisfying, but not cost-free. The finale’s momentum makes the earlier divide more noticeable rather than erasing it. The episode feels most assured when it is building on character history and the consequences of Fisk’s political reach, not when it has to bridge the show’s competing modes.
The action serves the characters
Marvel described the series’ intended approach as grounded and rooted in New York. Marvel Studios Head of Television, Streaming, and Animation Brad Winderbaum said the aim was “a grounded, street-based ecosystem.” He also said the action is “all born out of character,” with violence used by the characters “in order to trade power.” Those principles suit this finale: action matters most as an expression of the people caught in Fisk’s struggle for control, rather than as spectacle detached from them.
Matt, Karen, Frank and Fisk remain the emotional center even as the stakes widen. The reunion with Frank adds the charge of an old, unresolved partnership, while Karen’s presence in the closing resistance scene makes the next move feel collective rather than merely another solo mission for Matt.

Why the ending matters for season 2
Fisk closes the season in a stronger position, while Matt and Karen have the beginnings of a resistance, not a ready-made army. That imbalance gives the finale its bleak edge: the heroes make a meaningful choice, but the city’s immediate balance of power has not swung back in their favor. The ending works as a season-one climax because it resolves the question of what Matt and Karen intend to do next, while leaving the larger fight open.
The final gathering points toward a resistance story in season two. The Ringer suggests a possible connection to the comics’ Devil’s Reign, but that is speculation, not confirmation of the next season’s adaptation plans.
Who is in the finale, and how much prior Daredevil should you know?
The key returning figures in the finale include Matt Murdock, Karen Page, Frank Castle, Wilson and Vanessa Fisk, Benjamin Poindexter, Foggy Nelson, and the flashback’s connection to Agent Nadeem. The episode’s payoffs land most strongly for viewers who remember the earlier series: Vanessa’s arrangement and the FBI scandal carry history with them, and Matt and Frank’s reunion depends on the weight of their previous encounters.
Even without that background, the immediate stakes are legible: Fisk is consolidating power, Matt and Karen are organizing against him, and the people at Josie’s Bar may become part of that effort. Familiarity deepens the references, but the final objective is clear on its own.

When did the finale come out, and where can you watch it?
“Straight to Hell” is episode 9 of Daredevil: Born Again season 1. Rotten Tomatoes lists its air date as April 15, 2025. Its episode listing names Disney+ and Hulu as subscription viewing services; availability can vary by location and current service terms.
Is it the most exciting MCU ending in years?
That is a defensible personal reaction, not an established ranking. The available episode coverage does not provide a consistent comparison of MCU finales that could prove a superlative. What the episode does earn is a strong final movement: it reconnects the present story to Daredevil history, withholds an easy resolution to Fisk’s threat, and gives Matt and Karen a concrete reason to bring allies together.
IGN Movies critic Joshua Yehl rated the episode 9/10, calling it “a satisfying finale that sets up a colossal challenge for ol’ Hornhead in season two.” That is one critic’s assessment, but it captures the finale’s main achievement: a satisfying landing that doubles as a launch into a larger conflict.
