The episode ends with Heather Glenn shooting Muse—and with Fisk’s rival Luka dead—so its title’s promise of a shocking finish is fulfilled. But the Muse storyline reaches that finish so quickly that the surprise lands more cleanly than the dramatic payoff. Matt’s return to action and the parallel Fisk plot keep the hour moving, even as they leave little room to process Heather’s choice.
Does the Muse story earn its abrupt ending?
“Art for Art’s Sake,” directed by David Boyd and written by Jill Blankenship, aired April 1, 2025. It picks up after Matt’s confrontation with Muse: Matt is back in costume, and Wilson Fisk learns that Daredevil has returned. The episode’s central engine is the race to stop Muse from killing again, with Heather Glenn—Matt’s therapist and a character tied to Fisk as well—drawn into the danger.

The problem is not that the episode moves quickly; a pursuit story can benefit from urgency. It is that the leap from Muse’s looming threat to his defeat comes before the investigation and confrontation have accumulated enough weight. When Heather shoots him during the climax, the event is startling, but the Muse arc feels more concluded than resolved. Jarrod Jones at The A.V. Club, Leah Schnelbach at Reactor, and Randy Dankievitch at Processed Media each criticize aspects of the installment’s speed or handling of the Muse material. Those are individual assessments, but the rushed turn is visible in the episode itself.
Heather’s decision shocks; its emotional aftermath is thinner
Heather has been connected to the show’s violence through therapy and her relationships, but shooting Muse makes that violence suddenly personal and irreversible. The choice is powerful because it changes her from someone discussing trauma to someone directly implicated in it. The episode registers her shock afterward, giving the moment an immediate human consequence.

Still, the story moves on before that consequence can fully develop. The question is not simply whether Heather could pull the trigger in a crisis; it is whether the episode has made enough space for the decision to feel like the culmination of her character rather than a device for a shocking pivot. The surprise works. The emotional logic is less complete.
Matt’s return brings action, not a fully balanced comeback
Matt’s return as Daredevil gives the episode an immediate jolt. Fisk’s response—“He’s back,” as transcribed in Nerdist’s recap—is a neat, controlled acknowledgment that the balance has changed. The line is effective because it makes Matt’s return matter beyond the costume: Fisk recognizes the threat, and the season’s conflict is back in motion.

The episode is less successful at balancing the physical return with Matt’s personal life. His connection to Heather makes the climax more charged, but the rapid movement through the Muse plot leaves little space for the relationship’s new reality to settle. The comeback is compelling as a plot event; its personal cost remains more promise than exploration here.

While Matt tracks Muse, the crime-and-politics threads advance. Daniel Blake pressures reporter BB, and Luka tries to enlist Vanessa against Fisk. Luka eventually approaches Fisk directly and is killed by Buck Cashman while Fisk remains at dinner. That contrast—violence carried out around a composed Fisk—suits the character’s controlled menace and gives the episode a second stark ending beat.

These developments widen the story beyond the Muse chase and reinforce Fisk’s reach. They also compete with the central plot for attention. Daniel and BB’s thread adds pressure, while Luka’s challenge and death make a clearer dramatic impression; neither can fully compensate for the Muse arc’s compressed payoff. The parallel plots keep the larger season in motion, but the hour feels divided between setting up conflicts and closing one too quickly.
Verdict: a startling finish with an undercooked payoff
Episode 7 delivers the thrill of Matt’s return and a genuinely shocking climax, then compounds it with Luka’s fatal attempt to challenge Fisk. Its strongest ideas are Heather’s sudden involvement in the violence and Fisk’s calm response to threats. Yet the Muse confrontation arrives at its conclusion before the episode has made that conclusion feel earned, and Heather’s aftermath receives less room than the moment demands. “Art for Art’s Sake” is forceful and consequential, but its shocks outpace its emotional follow-through.
