Canadian dancer Cassandra Naud has described moving from uncertainty about her prominent facial birthmark to accepting it as part of her appearance. “So I decided to embrace how I looked,” she wrote in a first-person interview published by Dance Spirit on February 8, 2016. Her account is personal: it traces childhood bullying, a decision not to pursue removal, and the way she felt the mark helped her stand out at auditions.
What Cassandra Naud said about her birthmark
Naud has said she was born with a nevus on her face. Dance Spirit described it as covering her right cheek in its 2016 interview; Inside Edition‘s 2015 coverage referred to her cheek without specifying a side. Both accounts portray the birthmark as a visible part of her identity, but the interviews capture her views at the time they were published, not necessarily her views today.
In the 2015 Inside Edition interview, Naud said, “I’ve just fallen in love with it.” A year later, in her first-person Dance Spirit interview, she wrote, “So I decided to embrace how I looked.” Her words describe a change in her own relationship with her appearance, rather than a claim that everyone with a visible difference will feel the same way.
Why her family waited on removal
In her 2016 account for Dance Spirit, Naud said her parents considered having the birthmark removed when she was a baby. As she recalled it, the procedure could have left scarring and carried a risk of a lazy eye. Her parents chose to wait so she could make the decision herself when she was older. That is Naud’s account of what her family was told; it is not general medical advice about nevus treatment.

Her decision before high school
Naud said she seriously considered removal before starting high school, but ultimately chose against it. She explained that the birthmark was not hurting her or making her unhealthy; her apprehension was more about beginning high school. Her recollection shows how the decision was connected to how she felt about entering a new social setting, as well as to her appearance.
Growing up with a visible difference
Naud has spoken about being bullied and struggling with confidence as she grew up. In the 2015 Inside Edition interview, she described having since fallen in love with her birthmark. The coverage offers her own account of that shift; it does not establish a broader pattern or a guaranteed path from bullying to self-acceptance.

How Naud connected the birthmark to dance work
Naud also said her appearance made her memorable at auditions and helped her stand out professionally. That is her experience, not evidence that a birthmark generally improves a dancer’s career prospects.
In her 2016 Dance Spirit interview, Naud placed that experience within a developing dance career. She said she began dancing at five, starting with jazz and ballet before adding tap, hip-hop, and contemporary. She studied dance and theater in AMDA’s Los Angeles BFA program and said she graduated in 2014, then signed with Movement Talent Agency before auditioning.

She recalled appearing in an ESPN promo featuring Maroon 5 and in a television sizzle reel. She also said that, after a director saw coverage of her story, the director asked her to audition for Leona Lewis’s “Fire Under My Feet” music video, which she booked. These are career details Naud recounted in 2016, not a current credits list.

The interviews make Naud’s personal perspective clear: she once considered removal, chose not to pursue it, and later spoke of embracing her appearance. They do not provide medical detail for assessing treatment, population-level evidence about visible birthmarks and confidence, or a recent first-person statement establishing her present-day views.

Naevus Global’s profile identifies Naud as a professional dancer, actor, and model and references her TEDxUniversityofPiraeus talk, “Embracing Uniqueness.” The profile confirms the talk’s existence, but does not by itself establish what she says in it about her birthmark.
