What does SHAK-undefined-he mean?
The code appears when Crunchyroll’s video player cannot complete playback. Crunchyroll’s English help pages provide general browser and video troubleshooting, but no dedicated definition for this exact string. The word “undefined” should therefore be read as an incomplete or generic player label, not as a confirmed diagnosis.
Crunchyroll separately documents families such as SHAK-6*-GENERIC and SHAK-6*DRM as DRM-related browser errors. That documentation does not establish that SHAK-undefined-he belongs to the same category; protected-content playback is only one possibility. Fast troubleshooting sequence
1. Reload and retry
- Close the failed player or tab.
- Reopen Crunchyroll and start the same episode.
- Try another episode to see whether the failure is title-specific.
Crunchyroll lists refreshing or restarting the browser or app as a first-line step in its loading and access troubleshooting.
2. Test a private window
- Open Chrome or Edge Incognito, Firefox Private Window, or Safari Private Browsing.
- Sign in to Crunchyroll.
- Play the same episode.
If it works privately, an extension or existing site data is a strong suspect. This test changes the browser environment without deleting your normal profile.
3. Temporarily disable blockers and privacy tools
Test with ad blockers, script blockers, pop-up blockers, anti-tracking tools, browser antivirus extensions, user-agent switchers, and playback-enhancement extensions disabled. Reload after each change. If playback returns, re-enable tools one at a time and whitelist only the necessary Crunchyroll pages if you trust the extension. Do not permanently weaken security protections just to test a video. Crunchyroll notes that extensions and ad blockers can interfere with page and player operation.

4. Disconnect VPNs and proxies
Turn off a VPN, browser proxy, or system proxy and retry on your ordinary connection. Crunchyroll identifies VPNs and proxies as possible playback and DRM interferers; changing your IP can also affect regional licensing. Browser fixes
Update the browser
The retrieved Crunchyroll browser page lists Chrome 117 or newer, Firefox 117 or newer, Edge 117 or newer, and Safari 16.1 or newer. Requirements can change, so verify the current list on Crunchyroll’s browser-video page.

Allow protected content when relevant
If the failure occurs only in browser playback or resembles other DRM errors, ensure protected content is permitted. On Edge, Crunchyroll’s instructions reference edge://flags/#edge-widevine-drm and enabling Widevine. This is not a universal fix for SHAK-undefined-he; do not change flags unless the symptom points to DRM.
Clear Crunchyroll site data
- Open your browser’s privacy or site-settings page.
- Search for Crunchyroll and delete its cookies and cached site data.
- Close and reopen the browser, then sign in again.
Clearing data can remove a stale session or corrupted local resource, but it signs you out and is not guaranteed to solve the code.
Phone, TV, console, and streaming-device fixes
- Restart the device and update its operating system and Crunchyroll app.
- On Android, use Settings > Apps > Crunchyroll > Storage > Clear cache. Use Clear data only when needed; it resets local app data and signs you out.
- If the app still fails, sign out if possible, uninstall Crunchyroll, restart the device, reinstall it from the official app store, and sign in again.
- Play the same episode on a different device. If it works there, concentrate on the original app or device rather than reinstalling everything.

Check the network only after local browser tests
- Switch from Wi‑Fi to mobile data, or to another trusted network.
- Restart the router by unplugging it for about 30 seconds, then reconnecting it.
- If the alternate network works, investigate DNS filtering, parental controls, router security, or ISP restrictions on the original network.
Changing DNS is an advanced possibility mentioned in Crunchyroll’s browser guidance, not a confirmed remedy for this code. DNS cannot fix a broken player session or faulty episode stream.

A service or stream-specific problem becomes more likely when the error persists in multiple browsers and devices, affects unrelated shows, and remains after switching networks while other services work normally. A single episode failing while neighboring episodes play can indicate an episode asset problem. Community reports mention SHAK-family failures on multiple shows and near episode endings, but those observations are old and user-generated—not proof of a universal pattern or a current outage.
Do not assume Crunchyroll is down without a current official notice. If local tests isolate no cause, stop repeatedly reinstalling apps and send the evidence to Crunchyroll Support.

- The exact code:
SHAK-undefined-he. - A screenshot of the player message.
- Show title, season, and episode number.
- Where playback fails: beginning, middle, ending, or credits.
- Device model, operating system, browser and version, or app version.
- Country or region.
- Whether a VPN, proxy, ad blocker, or privacy tool is active.
- Results on other browsers, devices, and networks.
- Other episodes or shows that do play.
- Every troubleshooting step already attempted.
