The announcement was reported on April 15, 2025, after she shared it in a Substack post. The report did not specify what she plans to do next.
What Courtney Henggeler said about leaving acting
As reported by The Independent on April 15, 2025, Henggeler wrote that after “20-plus years of fighting the good fight in the acting business,” she had “hung up my gloves on Friday.” She said she called her agents and told them she was “tapping out.” These are her words as quoted in the report; the announcement was made in a Substack post.
Her explanation was specific: she said the problem was “not because of the acting itself,” but the “gauntlet” she had to run to reach acting work. She described the business as a cycle of hustle and grind that had become stifling. That supports saying she was leaving the acting business as she described it; it does not establish a permanent vow never to perform or a decision to abandon every kind of creative work.
What she did—and did not—say about what comes next
The Independent’s report says Henggeler did not disclose her next move. Her remark, “I want to be the machine,” does not identify a new job, company, or project, so it should not be treated as an announcement of a specific business venture. The report also does not establish that she is retiring from all creative work or that she will never return to a set.

How Cobra Kai fits the timing
Henggeler played Amanda LaRusso in Cobra Kai across all six seasons, according to The Independent. Netflix’s official series page dates the finale event launch to February 13, 2025. The timing places the announcement after the show’s finale launch, but the available reporting does not say that the end of Cobra Kai caused her decision.
Her earlier comments and work beyond acting
A Television Academy profile published December 30, 2021 gives a useful earlier point of comparison. Henggeler said she had once come close to quitting after years without a starring role. Landing Cobra Kai gave her what she called an “illusion of security” and space to consider what she wanted her life to look like. That account describes an earlier stage in her career; it does not reveal her current plans.
