Terry Silver’s Valley-wide Cobra Kai expansion ends with the students exposing his assault on Stingray, Daniel defeating him, and Silver being arrested. But the season’s final twist is John Kreese’s escape from prison. Meanwhile, Johnny and Robby make progress, Miguel and Sam reunite, Robby and Tory become a couple, and the Sekai Taikai sets up the next stage of the karate conflict.
Silver turns Cobra Kai into a Valley-wide threat
Season 5 begins with Terry Silver in control of Cobra Kai and determined to spread it throughout the Valley. Daniel recognizes the danger because he knows Silver’s history and methods. He recruits Chozen to help stop him, but the fight consumes Daniel: his pursuit strains his family life and pulls him away from the balance Mr. Miyagi taught him.
Johnny, still trying to do better after years of failing Robby, becomes an unexpected voice of reason. The contrast is central to the season: Daniel risks losing himself in the campaign against Silver, while Johnny works toward being more present for the people he loves.
How Silver’s plan is exposed and the rivalry ends
Silver assaults Stingray and arranges events to make it appear that Kreese was responsible. The students eventually uncover the truth, and Stingray comes forward. Their evidence gives Daniel the chance to confront Silver directly.

Daniel and Silver’s final face-off settles their long-running rivalry for the moment. Silver’s role in the assault is exposed, he is arrested, and Cobra Kai’s expansion across the Valley is halted. The victory is hard-won rather than effortless: Netflix’s showrunner interview described the ending as a temporarily peaceful moment after the karate war. Silver’s arrest resolves the immediate Season 5 conflict, but it does not establish that he is gone from the wider story.
Kreese escapes, leaving the finale’s unresolved threat
Kreese is imprisoned for Stingray’s assault, and his parole hearing is denied. He then helps stage a fake death and escapes from prison. The season ends with him free, making his escape its clearest unresolved danger. Silver’s immediate downfall may quiet the Valley conflict, but Kreese’s freedom leaves the story open.

The Sekai Taikai points beyond the Valley
Season 5 introduces the Sekai Taikai, an international karate tournament that offers a new arena after the Valley conflict. With Cobra Kai barred from the Valley’s tournament pathway, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang prepare their students to compete. The tournament is a bridge into Season 6, not a Season 5 event: its later Spain setting belongs to the final season.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Season 6 is complete
Season 5 originally ended by setting up the next chapter, but Season 6 is no longer forthcoming. Netflix describes it as the 15-episode final season, released in three parts; all three parts are now available. Netflix’s official guide shows Miyagi-Do at the Sekai Taikai in Spain in Season 6. For the recap, the key distinction is that the tournament invitation and Kreese’s escape are Season 5 endings, while the Spain competition belongs to the completed follow-up.
