CM Punk and Serena Deeb first shared a prominent public connection through WWE’s scripted Straight Edge Society storyline. Years later, Deeb spoke positively about Punk’s professional support before she joined WWE and described their relationship favorably in a 2021 interview. Those accounts document a professional history and Deeb’s recollections at that time—not a romantic relationship or their current contact.
How they were connected in WWE
Deeb was a member of Punk’s Straight Edge Society, with Punk presented as the group’s on-screen leader. WWE’s storyline included an initiation in which Deeb’s head was shaved. That was a scripted wrestling angle: it explains their public association, but does not establish the nature of their private relationship. WWE’s profile of Deeb and its coverage of the group document that on-screen context.
Deeb’s career also continued beyond that storyline. WWE says she joined the SmackDown roster in 2010 and became a full-time trainer at the WWE Performance Center in 2018. In a 2018 interview about coaching, she described an approach centered on compassion, empathy, and understanding each trainee’s background. That material concerns her work as a coach; it does not say Punk trained her. WWE’s interview with Deeb and her coach profile provide that career context.
What Deeb said about Punk’s support
On the January 14, 2021 episode of AEW’s Unrestricted, Deeb discussed her experiences working with Punk. The official episode listing confirms the interview and its subject. Reporting on her comments says Deeb credited Punk with guiding and supporting her in reaching opportunities before WWE. That is Deeb’s reported recollection, not independent verification of private events. Fightful’s account of the comments reports her description of that support.

A 2022 report also recounted Deeb saying that she and Punk had a good relationship and spoke regularly at the time of the 2021 interview. This dates the claim to her comments then; it does not show whether they are in contact now. Wrestling Inc.’s report describes those remarks. The official episode listing establishes what the interview covered, but it is not a full transcript.
What is—and is not—established
- Established: They had a public WWE storyline connection, with Deeb in Punk’s Straight Edge Society.
- Established as Deeb’s recollection: She spoke positively about Punk’s professional support before WWE and described their relationship favorably in comments from 2021.
- Not established: These sources do not verify their present-day contact, say that Punk was Deeb’s trainer, or establish a romantic relationship. The Washington Post’s 2022 profile describes them as former WWE colleagues who later worked at AEW, but that historical context does not confirm current status. The Washington Post profile covers that later professional context.
The clearest answer is therefore professional: an on-screen WWE association followed by Deeb’s positive account of Punk’s earlier career support. Anything beyond that—including assumptions based on their scripted roles or claims about their private lives—goes beyond what these sources establish.
