When was Morgan’s death confirmed?
The death was publicly reported on January 6, 2024, after the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it to media outlets including TMZ and UPI. Early reports described the death as having occurred “a few days” earlier. Later reporting established that Morgan was found and pronounced dead on December 30, 2023.
A Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control officer had reportedly visited Morgan’s residence on December 29 after receiving an abandoned-animal complaint. According to a later local account citing county records, the officer knocked, called Morgan, received no answer, left a message and posted a 24-hour abandonment notice. That visit preceded the roommate’s return and the 911 call the following day.
Cause of death and investigation
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office characterized Morgan’s death as apparently resulting from natural causes and said that no foul play was suspected. The initial public statements did not identify a specific medical diagnosis.
A detailed local report published in December 2024 and updated in June 2025 said Dr. Michelle Duhaney signed Morgan’s death certificate. The same report, citing Morgan’s brother Michael Cichorski, said the certificate listed “cardiac arrest and a history of seizures.” That wording is best treated as an attributed account of the death certificate rather than as an independently established medical conclusion. The report also said that no autopsy was performed.

Cindy Morgan’s film career
Morgan made her feature-film debut in Caddyshack, Harold Ramis’s 1980 comedy about an eccentric country club and the people competing, scheming and misbehaving around it. She played Lacey Underall, the niece of Ted Knight’s Judge Smails.
Lacey is one of the film’s most memorable supporting characters, and Morgan appeared alongside Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight and Michael O’Keefe. The film became her breakthrough role and remains the performance most closely associated with her by mainstream movie audiences.
Two years later, Morgan took on a very different part in Disney’s Tron. She played computer programmer Lora Baines in the film’s real-world scenes and Yori, Lora’s digital counterpart, inside the computer world. The original Tron was released on July 9, 1982, and became a landmark of early computer-generated and computer-themed studio filmmaking.

Morgan’s dual role in Tron was especially significant because Lora and Yori occupy two versions of the film’s reality: one as a human scientist and the other as a digital program. For genre audiences, that connection made her part of one of the defining science-fiction films of the early 1980s.

Television work and later appearances
Beyond Caddyshack and Tron, Morgan worked regularly in television. Her credits included appearances or roles in Falcon Crest, CHiPs, Bring ’Em Back Alive, The Love Boat, Matlock and The Larry Sanders Show. Her film credits also included The Midnight Hour.
In later years, Morgan remained connected to the classic-film and science-fiction communities through convention appearances. She signed photographs and other memorabilia associated with Caddyshack and Tron, giving fans an opportunity to meet an actor linked to two particularly enduring 1980s movies.
How old was Cindy Morgan?
Morgan was 69 when she died. The Television Academy lists her birthday as September 29, 1954, and her date of passing as December 30, 2023. Some secondary databases have listed 1951 as her birth year, so the age of 69 is the clearest widely supported description.

Further reading and viewing
Viewers who want more context about Morgan’s breakthrough film may want to look for Caddyshack: The Making of a Hollywood Cinderella Story by Chris Nashawaty. The book focuses on the production and cultural legacy of the film rather than presenting itself as a biography of Morgan.
Another film-history option is The Book of Caddyshack by Scott Martin, an illustrated reference work centered on the movie’s production, trivia and lasting appeal.
For a rewatch, editions of Caddyshack on Blu-ray and physical editions of the original 1982 Tron have been released, although current U.S. availability, format, region coding, seller and condition can change. The original Tron should be distinguished from Tron: Legacy and later entries in the franchise.
