The early cautious wording reflected the status of the investigation at the time. The later coroner finding established the reported cause without establishing a motive or explaining private circumstances that were not part of the public record.
Bennington’s role in Linkin Park
Bennington was the lead singer of Linkin Park, whose combination of rock, hip-hop and electronic elements made the band one of the defining acts of the early 2000s. He shared vocal duties and songwriting responsibilities within the group, including on its breakthrough debut album, Hybrid Theory.

Linkin Park’s music around his death

Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda acknowledged the reports publicly, writing: “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”
Cameron Strang, then chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Records, described Bennington as “an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul.”
