For most U.S. NFL fans, the cheapest setup is an antenna for local games, plus only the streaming services needed for games your antenna cannot carry. Out-of-market Sunday afternoon games are the exception: they generally require NFL Sunday Ticket. No single service carries every NFL game, and Sunday Ticket is not a complete-season pass.
This guide covers legal U.S. viewing for the 2026 NFL season, with a separate section for college football. “Cheapest” means the lowest realistic cost for what you want to watch; your ZIP code, existing subscriptions and reception matter. Prices below are current signals from the cited providers, checked August 18, 2026, and can change. Taxes, internet access and equipment are excluded unless noted.
Start with three questions
- Which football? NFL and college football have different rights and packages. This guide covers both separately; it does not cover association football (soccer).
- Are you in your team’s local market? Local fans may receive many Sunday games free over the air. Fans outside the market usually need Sunday Ticket for that team’s Sunday afternoon CBS and Fox games.
- How much do you want to watch? A few local games, one out-of-market team, every Sunday afternoon game and RedZone each call for different setups.
Before subscribing, use the NFL’s viewing guide to check where games are carried in your area, then compare those listings with the schedule. Flexible scheduling can change a game’s broadcast window, so a team’s outlet can change from week to week.

The free starting point: an antenna
An antenna can receive local broadcast affiliates without a monthly bill. That can include CBS and Fox Sunday afternoon games, NBC’s Sunday Night Football and ABC games when a local station carries them. Reception is highly location-dependent: tower distance, terrain, nearby buildings, antenna placement and the affiliate’s coverage all matter.

Check a broadcast-reception map or antenna-reception database for your address before buying, and choose equipment with a return policy if reception is uncertain. An indoor antenna can struggle in rural areas, valleys, apartments or buildings with substantial metal or concrete. Having a network name on a service’s channel list also does not guarantee that your specific local affiliate is available.
An antenna does not deliver out-of-market Sunday games, Prime Video exclusives, Peacock-only games, ESPN-only games or Netflix exclusives. It also does not provide every college-football network. It is nevertheless the best first purchase for many in-market NFL viewers: if it carries the games you want, you avoid paying for a full live-TV bundle.
NFL+: inexpensive, but not a universal live-TV pass

NFL+ is not Sunday Ticket. Live access is subject to device and market limits, and it does not provide every out-of-market Sunday afternoon game. Before paying, check whether the specific live games you want can be watched on your device; do not buy it expecting to stream an out-of-market Sunday game live on a television. Replays and other features are distinct from live access.
Sunday Ticket: the out-of-market Sunday afternoon product
NFL Sunday Ticket covers regular-season Sunday afternoon games shown on CBS and Fox that are not available on local broadcasts in your area. It is designed for viewers whose desired Sunday game is outside their local market—not as a universal NFL subscription.
It does not replace local broadcasts; include nationally televised games, postseason or preseason games; or guarantee selected digital-exclusive and international games. A game that moves to a national window through flex scheduling may leave the Sunday Ticket slate. Check the current inclusion and exclusion details and each week’s listing.

Google offers Sunday Ticket through YouTube TV or as a standalone YouTube Primetime Channel. The YouTube TV route requires an active base subscription, listed at $82.99 per month in Google’s support documentation. That can make it poor value if you want only Sunday Ticket and do not need the rest of YouTube TV. Google’s 2026 announcement lists $378 with YouTube TV or $480 through Primetime Channels for the applicable returning-subscriber purchase categories, with RedZone costing an additional $42. Those figures are not a universal new-customer price; verify the price shown for your account before buying.

Google’s current location guidance says your payments-profile address determines location for local-market access. Use the correct account and address, and buy and watch through the same Google account to avoid membership or location confusion. Season purchases may be nonrefundable; check renewal, cancellation and installment terms at checkout. Options can vary over time. Discounts to check before paying
- Eligible military, veterans, first responders, medical professionals and teachers: Google lists a 2026 ID.me-verified Heroes offer at $198, or $240 with RedZone, available through January 10, 2027. Eligibility must be verified; this is not a general discount. See the offer and eligibility terms.
- Students: Google’s student help page displays $119 for the 2025–26 season, plus a limited-time $10 RedZone option, but the page still carries that older season label. Treat the 2026 price as unconfirmed until the live checkout page shows it. The listed terms require age 18 or older, current enrollment at an accredited college or university and SheerID verification; the plan is limited to one signed-in device and one concurrent stream, with no automatic renewal and no cancellation or refund. - Returning subscribers: The announced $378 and $480 prices apply to the subscriber categories in Google’s 2026 announcement, not necessarily every new subscriber. Check your account’s actual offer.
To buy standalone Sunday Ticket, sign into the Google account you will use, find NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube, choose Get NFL Sunday Ticket and Explore options, then select a package and payment plan. Students should use a browser, choose the student option, complete SheerID verification and confirm the final price and device limits before purchase.

Exclusive games: add only what your schedule requires
NFL distribution is split among broadcasters and streaming services. The NFL’s official viewing guide is the safest place to check the outlet for a particular game. Typical outlets include CBS and Fox for Sunday afternoons; NBC and Peacock for Sunday Night Football and certain exclusive games; ESPN and ABC for Monday Night Football and other games; Prime Video for Thursday Night Football and Black Friday; and Netflix for selected exclusive games, including holiday programming. NFL Network and digital outlets carry selected games or programming. Listings can change, including through flex scheduling.

Make a calendar before subscribing: mark each game you care about, its broadcaster, whether it is local to you and which of your existing subscriptions already cover it. Then add only the missing services. A network’s standalone app may not provide every game carried by that network; local-station access, authentication and market rights can differ. Do not rely on a free-stream claim unless the game’s official listing confirms it.
When a live-TV bundle makes sense
YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, Sling, cable and satellite can be worthwhile if you watch many channels or need a reliable combination of local affiliates and sports networks. But no live-TV service is automatically the cheapest nationwide choice. Check your ZIP code for local CBS, Fox, NBC and ABC; confirm ESPN and NFL Network if you need them; check whether RedZone is an add-on; and compare the actual total after promotions expire. Also check stream limits, household rules, cancellation terms and any required Sunday Ticket subscription.

Sling can be attractive for selective viewing, but local-channel availability varies. Fubo and Hulu + Live TV offer broader bundles, but their price and channel mix may exceed what a casual NFL viewer needs. YouTube TV carries Sunday Ticket as an add-on, but its base plan makes the total costly for someone interested only in out-of-market games. Verify the local affiliate and current offer directly with each provider before subscribing.
RedZone is for a different kind of Sunday
NFL RedZone rapidly switches among live games when teams approach scoring opportunities. It suits fantasy players and fans who want league-wide action, but it is not a full-game feed and does not guarantee sustained coverage of one team. It is sold through qualifying packages or providers rather than serving as a replacement for Sunday Ticket. The 2026 ID.me Heroes offer lists RedZone at $42 extra with Sunday Ticket. Check provider terms for any other bundle or add-on.
College football: compare the Saturday you watch, not an NFL package
There is no NFL Sunday Ticket equivalent that covers all college games. Rights are divided among ABC/ESPN, Fox/FS1, CBS/Paramount+, NBC/Peacock, conference networks such as SEC Network, Big Ten Network and ACC Network, and other outlets. The right setup depends on your team, conference, local broadcasts and whether you watch one game or a full Saturday slate.

For one team, note the outlets for its scheduled games and consider rotating monthly subscriptions around the games you most want to see. For a household watching games across several conferences and networks, a live-TV bundle may be simpler or cheaper than stacking individual subscriptions—but only if it carries the required channels in your market. Check each game’s official listing and your provider’s current channel lineup. NFL Sunday Ticket does not cover college football.
Ways to lower the total bill
- Start with the map, not a subscription. Confirm local games and reception before paying for a bundle or Sunday Ticket.
- Count existing access as part of the price. An existing Prime Video or Netflix subscription may already cover a game without an added subscription cost. Check the applicable plan and listing.
- Compare total season cost. A $6.99 monthly service for a limited window differs from keeping an $82.99 live-TV plan for five months. Annual plans save money only if you will use them for the full billed period.
- Use eligibility discounts. Check the ID.me offer or student checkout before paying standard Sunday Ticket pricing.
- Rotate where practical. Subscribe for a specific exclusive-game or college-football window, then cancel if you do not need the service for other programming. Check whether cancellation takes effect immediately or at the end of the billing period.
- Watch renewal and billing details. App-store or third-party billing can cost more; NFL support warns that fees may vary. Confirm the plan, taxes and renewal date at checkout.
The most common expensive mistake is buying a broad bundle before checking whether your games are local. The other is buying Sunday Ticket expecting local, national, playoff and exclusive games to be included. Map your actual games first; then pay only for the gaps.
