Before Train
Colin grew up in Southern California and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. After college, he played in Apostles with guitarist Jimmy Stafford and singer Rob Hotchkiss. When that group dissolved, Colin spent a year in Singapore writing jingles. He later relocated to San Francisco with Hotchkiss and Stafford, where they formed Train with singer Pat Monahan.
Leaving Train and later projects
Colin left Train in 2003. The Associated Press reported that his departure was related to substance abuse and quoted Monahan saying, “Charlie is one incredible bass player, but he was in a lot of pain, and the way he was dealing with it was very painful for everyone else around him.”
