Spoilers for Chainsaw Man Chapter 172. Pochita eats the Ear Devil, and ears disappear from the world. The moment makes the series’ concept-erasure ability suddenly concrete: a supernatural rule becomes an immediate change to ordinary reality. That is one way to read the chapter as bringing the story full circle—not a confirmed statement of creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s intent.
What happens in Chainsaw Man Chapter 172?
Chapter 172 continues the violence after Pochita’s transformation into Chainsaw Man. A recap by ComingSoon reports that Pochita consumes the Ear Devil and that ears are then erased from the world. The chapter also involves Public Safety’s operation around Pochita, though the accessible official listing does not provide a full prose synopsis or transcript.
For the complete sequence, panel details, and dialogue, read the chapter itself through VIZ’s official Chapter 172 listing. The recap is a secondary account, not a substitute for checking the manga.
What did Chainsaw Man eat, and why did ears disappear?
According to ComingSoon’s recap, Pochita ate the Ear Devil. The reported consequence is that ears disappeared from the world. This is presented as an effect of Chainsaw Man’s established concept-erasure premise: what he consumes can be erased from reality. In this chapter, that premise is made visible through an everyday part of the world rather than remaining an abstract supernatural rule.

How Chapter 172 brings the series full circle
The “full circle” reading lies in the gap between a strange ability and its practical consequence. The story’s erasure concept becomes an immediate alteration to ordinary life: people no longer have ears. The chapter thus revisits a core idea by showing what it means when the rule is applied directly to the world around the characters.
This is an interpretation of the chapter’s effect, not an explanation confirmed by Fujimoto or VIZ. The moment is a major escalation of the ability, but it does not by itself establish that the series’ larger mysteries have been resolved.
