Short answer: CBC News Network is still listed as a live channel on Prime Video Canada. ICI RDI was announced for the same service on March 5, 2026, but CBC/Radio-Canada paused new ICI RDI subscriptions on March 13. The original two-channel launch headline is therefore no longer fully accurate.
What launched on March 5, 2026?
CBC/Radio-Canada announced a Prime Video Channels arrangement offering CBC News Network and ICI RDI as separate Canadian add-on subscriptions. The announced launch price was C$4.99 per month per channel, with a seven-day trial. The services were positioned as live, continuous English- and French-language news feeds, not as ordinary on-demand titles in the Prime Video catalogue. See the Radio-Canada announcement.
That price was per channel, not necessarily for a combined CBC News Network/ICI RDI package. A Prime Video account or eligible Prime Video access was required, and the channel fee was separate from any base Prime membership cost. Launch terms and prices can change, so check the checkout page on a signed-in Canadian account.

CBC/Radio-Canada subsequently paused new ICI RDI subscriptions on Prime Video. A Canadian Heritage briefing says the pause would remain until ICI RDI could also be offered through ICI TOU.TV; an existing distributor agreement was cited as the contractual obstacle. This does not establish that every existing ICI RDI subscriber lost access, that ICI RDI is permanently unavailable, or that it has already launched on ICI TOU.TV. It means a new customer should not assume the March 5 offer remains purchasable.

Check the Prime Video Canada live-TV directory and the CBC News Network channel page. Listings can vary by country, account region, billing address, device and language settings. A visible listing is not a guarantee that your account can subscribe.

What you actually get
- Live channel access: This is primarily a continuous live feed, rather than the entire CBC Gem or ICI TOU.TV catalogue.
- Separate billing: The announced C$4.99 monthly fee applied to each channel. Subscribing to one does not automatically include the other.
- Trial caveat: The seven-day trial was part of the launch offer. Confirm the current terms, conversion date and cancellation rules before starting one.
- Regional limits: The offer was for Canadian customers. Accounts registered outside Canada may see a listing but no eligible purchase option.
- No assumed DVR or replay: Do not presume recording, full catch-up availability or downloads unless the current Prime Video terms explicitly provide them.
CBC News Network is the 24-hour news service; it is not the same as a local CBC television station, the complete CBC Gem catalogue, CBC.ca articles, or an individual broadcast of The National.

How to decide if Prime Video is worthwhile
Prime Video Channels makes sense when
- You already use Prime Video and want CBC News Network in the same app and billing system.
- You want a live news feed rather than occasional clips.
- Your television, streaming stick or smart-TV setup is centred on Prime Video.
Look elsewhere when
- You specifically want ICI RDI as a new subscriber; availability is paused.
- You already receive CBC News Network through CBC Gem, cable, satellite, fibre TV or another internet-TV service.
- You want broad CBC or Radio-Canada programming, not just a live news channel.
- You need several live channels and would get better value from a bundle.
CBC Gem may be the more direct choice for viewers who want CBC programming alongside CBC News Network. ICI TOU.TV remains the broadcaster’s French-language platform, but the reviewed update did not confirm ICI RDI there. Radio-Canada has also identified RiverTV and traditional television providers as distribution routes; check their current channel lineups and prices rather than assuming the Prime Video rate applies.

Why the arrangement drew criticism
The launch raised a distribution debate because ICI RDI was offered first through Amazon while not yet available on the Canadian broadcaster’s own ICI TOU.TV platform. The Canadian Heritage briefing records scrutiny from French-language stakeholders and Bloc Québécois MP Martin Champoux. That is a policy and public-service argument, not proof that the arrangement breached a law or broadcasting rule. It also did not replace every Canadian distributor; Radio-Canada continued to cite cable, satellite and digital partners.
Before you subscribe
- Sign in to your Canadian Prime Video account and open the CBC News Network offer.
- Confirm the displayed monthly price, trial length, supported device and billing date.
- Check whether another service you already pay for includes the same channel.
- If you want ICI RDI, treat any old March 5 page or search result as outdated until a current purchase option appears.
- Record the trial end date and cancellation method shown by Prime Video.
For the latest channel listing, use Prime Video’s own Canadian pages rather than screenshots, third-party listings or launch-day articles. Availability can change without the original announcement being rewritten.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: CBC News Network remains visibly available as a Prime Video Canada live-channel option, subject to your account’s eligibility and the current price. ICI RDI’s launch was real, but new Prime Video subscriptions were paused on March 13, 2026. If you want French-language RDI, verify a current provider listing; do not assume the original two-channel offer is still open.
