The first Captain America: Brave New World trailer connects Sam Wilson’s new role to earlier MCU stories, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and The Incredible Hulk. It also ends with a clear Red Hulk reveal. Other details that drew attention—the map, Isaiah Bradley’s attack and a possible Tiamut image—are not explained or confirmed by the trailer.
This breakdown focuses on the first trailer, covered by GameSpot and Den of Geek on July 12, 2024. Disney announced a separate new trailer at Brazil D23 on November 13, 2024, so the two should not be conflated. Marvel’s film page lists the official trailer, while Disney’s press kit describes the film as a 2025 release and sets up Sam’s meeting with newly elected President Thaddeus Ross.
What the first trailer establishes
Sam Wilson is Captain America, and the conflict with President Ross is central to the story. In the trailer, Ross proposes “making Captain America an official military position.” Sam’s reply raises the question of what happens when the two disagree about how to handle a situation. That exchange is a story clue: Ross wants to formalize the role, while Sam’s judgment may not always align with the government’s direction. GameSpot transcribes the exchange in its first-trailer breakdown.
Disney’s press kit says Sam meets newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, becomes caught in an international incident and must uncover a global plot. That official setup gives the trailer’s political tension a clear context without explaining every image or character action.
#1 Best Overall
- As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Callbacks to earlier MCU stories
Isaiah Bradley returns
Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley, introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, appears in the trailer and is shown attacking Ross. The trailer does not explain why. Resentment or mind control are possibilities raised in contemporary commentary, not established answers. Den of Geek notes that Bradley’s story is connected to the 2003 comic miniseries Truth: Red, White, and Black; the screen character’s return also links the film to Sam’s earlier series.
Samuel Sterns points back to The Incredible Hulk
The trailer’s Samuel Sterns appearance recalls a thread from 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Den of Geek recounts that Sterns was introduced as “Mr. Blue” and came into contact with Bruce Banner’s gamma-irradiated blood, setting him up to become the Leader. His presence is a callback to that earlier film and its unfinished character arc.
Joaquin Torres may be taking up the Falcon mantle
Joaquin Torres, played by Danny Ramirez, is Sam’s ally. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam gave Torres mechanical wings. Den of Geek and GameSpot read some trailer shots as showing Torres in the Falcon role, but those individual images are not conclusive enough to treat every shot as definitive confirmation. Disney’s November 13, 2024 announcement of the later trailer identifies Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon; that announcement is distinct from the first trailer breakdown discussed here.

Red Hulk is the final reveal
The first trailer ends with Red Hulk smashing Captain America’s shield. The image is a direct reveal, not merely a fan interpretation. Disney’s press kit includes the phrase “the entire world seeing red,” but that wording alone does not identify who transforms. The trailer’s visual reveal and the film’s fuller character context are separate levels of information; a trailer-only reading should not use the press-kit phrase as proof of more than it says.
Details that remain unconfirmed
The map’s locations and purpose
A map with highlighted points suggests an operation spanning multiple places, but the trailer does not identify the points or explain what they mean. GameSpot’s proposed city and country matches are explicitly uncertain, and the breakdown says it cannot establish why the locations are highlighted. Treat the map as a hint of geographic scope, not a decoded itinerary or confirmed plot explanation.

- Steve Rogers wields the shield in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. Then it?s Sam Wilson who unleashes his wings and takes up the mantle in Captain America: Brave New World. Join them as they fight evil global forces with this action-packed 4-movie set.
The possible Tiamut image
Den of Geek discusses an online interpretation that a rocky ocean feature might be the Celestial Tiamut’s hand, recalling Eternals. The image is not clear enough to confirm, and the trailer does not focus on Tiamut. It is best described as a possible visual echo, not a confirmed Easter egg.
Bradley’s motive and the first-trailer identity guesses
Bradley’s attack on Ross is visible; its cause is not. Likewise, July 2024 breakdowns listed possible identities for Giancarlo Esposito’s character, including Sidewinder and G.W. Bridge, but reported that the role was unknown at that time. Those were contemporary guesses, not facts established by the first trailer. They should not be repeated as current character identification.
Rank #4
How to separate an Easter egg from a theory
A useful way to read trailer breakdowns is to ask two questions: is the detail plainly visible or officially described, and has its meaning been confirmed by official material or the finished film? A visible character or shield smash is on firmer ground than a location guessed from a map or a figure inferred from an indistinct frame.

- Directly shown: Ross proposes an official military role for Captain America; Bradley attacks Ross; Red Hulk smashes the shield.
- Clear callback: Bradley and Torres connect to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier; Sterns recalls The Incredible Hulk.
- Unresolved interpretation: the map’s marked locations and purpose, Bradley’s motivation, and the possible Tiamut image.
- Time-sensitive speculation: character identities guessed in July 2024 breakdowns should not be treated as confirmed information.
