“Canto a la Independencia Infantil” is a children’s call-and-response song that names several figures associated with Mexico’s independence movement. It appears under related titles, including “Canto de la Independencia” and “Canción de la Independencia.” The available sources do not establish a definitive lyricist or authoritative first publication, so treat each text as a version rather than a single verified original.
What the song is—and where to find its versions
The clearest match is Allegro Kids Studio’s 2016 video, titled “Canto de la Independencia.” Its description presents the lyrics as questions and answers and credits the music to Lev Arturo Muñoz Sánchez; it does not name the lyricist. View the Allegro Kids video and description.
A 2020 primary-school activity guide uses the title “Canción de la Independencia” and asks pupils to listen to an attached audio and learn or sing the song. A Scribd user-uploaded transcription uses the exact title “Canto a la Independencia Infantil.” These sources show that the song circulates under variant titles, but they do not establish which wording came first or who wrote the lyrics.

How the lyrics work
The song uses short prompts followed by names, making it easy for a group to answer together. The Allegro Kids description includes the exchange, “¿Quién inició la Independencia? Hidalgo y Costilla.” This is a brief mnemonic selection, not a complete account of the people, events, or causes of the independence movement.

Wording varies between sources. For example, the school guide asks “¿Quién la libertad reclama?” while the Allegro Kids description says “¿Quién la libertad aclama?” The Scribd transcription also differs in spelling and punctuation. If you are teaching or quoting the song, identify the particular video, guide, or transcription you are following instead of presenting one text as the definitive version.
Which historical figures it names
The Allegro Kids version names Hidalgo y Costilla, Aldama, Allende, the Corregidora, Morelos y Pavón, and Vicente Guerrero, assigning each a concise role in rhyme. That compression helps the song function as a recall activity, but a rhyming line should not be mistaken for a full historical explanation.

For broader orientation, a children’s history exchange published by the Mexican presidential office identifies 16 September 1810 as the beginning of the movement and discusses figures including Hidalgo, Morelos, Leona Vicario, Josefa Ortiz, and Guerrero. The official transcript records the exchange: “¿Cuándo inició la Independencia de México?” / “¡16 de septiembre de 1810!” Read the government transcript. This is historical context, not confirmation of every characterization in the song.
Using it with children
The school guide places the song in a listen-and-sing activity connected to independence heroes and literacy practice. A teacher or family can use the call-and-response format to help children remember names, then add context so that the song is a starting point rather than the whole lesson.

Authorship and what is not confirmed
The 2016 video description credits the music to Lev Arturo Muñoz Sánchez. The sources available here do not name the lyricist or establish an authoritative first publication. The school guide shows classroom use, while the user-uploaded transcription helps confirm the exact-title variant; neither settles authorship or permissions. A recording’s availability or a transcription online should not be taken by itself as evidence that the lyrics or audio are free to reproduce.
