What you’ll see—and what isn’t promised
Universal Studios Lot lists “Bates Motel” as a set recreated from the classic film Psycho, and lists “Psycho House” separately in its backlot catalog. The catalog describes locations on the lot; it is not an offer of public admission or a sightseeing visit.

Universal’s visitor guide says the Bates Motel has been a Studio Tour stop since 1964. It recommends watching Psycho (1960) before the tour. The set’s inclusion in the tour history does not guarantee that it will be visible on a particular departure, and the cited visitor information does not establish public access to the motel’s interior. Check the tour’s current information close to your visit.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is it an independent visit to the original filming location?
No. The supported public experience is viewing the backlot as part of the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour. The fact that the set is on an active studio lot does not mean visitors can book their own visit or wander the location outside the tour.
