Usually, not through Apple’s general website. Movies and TV shows bought through the former iTunes Store are now managed through the Apple TV app. On Windows, Apple’s current documented method is to install that app from the Microsoft Store, sign in with the Apple Account used for the purchase, and open Library. The Apple TV website is chiefly a browser viewer for Apple TV subscription content and does not reliably expose every purchased iTunes title.
Why your purchases may not appear at tv.apple.com
“Apple TV” can mean several different things: the Apple TV app, the Apple TV subscription service, the Apple TV website, Apple TV hardware, or the older iTunes purchasing system. They are related, but their libraries and features are not identical.
A successful sign-in at tv.apple.com does not guarantee that your purchased movies will appear there. Apple’s current Windows guidance directs users to the Apple TV app, where previous purchases and rentals are listed in Library.

Windows: the supported way to watch purchased movies
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Search for Apple TV and select Get.
- Open the app and sign in with the same Apple Account used to buy the movie.
- In the sidebar, choose Library.
- Open Movies or TV Shows.
- Select the title and choose Play.
Apple’s Windows guide also provides a More menu with a Download option for eligible purchases. Downloading is useful for travel or unreliable connections, but it does not create a normal, unrestricted MP4 file: Apple’s content remains protected and is intended for playback in supported apps.

Mac: use the Apple TV app
On a modern Mac, open Apple TV, choose Library, then Movies or TV Shows. Select the purchased item to play it. Where Apple provides a download control, you can save the title for offline viewing. Apple’s current redownload instructions are documented at support.apple.com/119602; reinstalling old iTunes should not be the default advice for current macOS versions.
Smart TVs, consoles, and streaming devices
On a supported smart TV, game console, streaming stick, or Apple TV device, open the Apple TV app, sign in to the matching Apple Account, and look under Library. Device features vary by model and country. Living-room devices generally stream previously purchased items but do not offer the download function available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Windows PC. Streaming versus downloading

Streaming requires an internet connection and account authorization. Downloads consume local storage and remain tied to Apple’s playback protections. A purchase is not automatically a transferable file for another player or service.

A purchased movie belongs to your Apple Account library. A rental is temporary: Apple generally gives you 30 days to start watching, and once playback begins, 48 hours to finish. Rental rules are explained at Apple Support; an expired rental is not a missing permanent purchase.

Apple TV subscription titles and Apple TV channel titles are also separate from purchases. A title shown in the app may be available to buy, rent, watch with a subscription, or access through a channel. Subscription or channel access does not turn into ownership, and those titles may not appear in the purchased-content list.
If a movie is missing from Library
- Verify the Apple Account. Check the email address and purchase history. A different account is the most common explanation.
- Check Family Sharing. If another family member made the purchase, select that member where the app provides a family-purchase or redownload view. Interfaces vary, so access is not guaranteed in exactly the same place on every device.
- Confirm what you obtained. It may have been a rental, subscription title, channel title, or third-party listing rather than an outright purchase.
- Check filters and categories. Look in both Movies and TV Shows, and clear any library filters.
- Refresh authorization. Sign out and back in, update Apple TV through the Microsoft Store, and restart the computer.
- Try a download. If the title appears but will not stream reliably, downloading can distinguish a connection problem from an account problem.
- Consider region and catalog changes. Availability can vary by country and licensing. A removed title is not automatically proof that the entitlement vanished, but playback rights and catalog behavior can differ.
- Contact Apple Support. If the item appears in purchase history but not in Library after these checks, Apple must investigate the account entitlement.
What not to try
- Do not assume that signing in at
tv.apple.comexposes the same library as the app. - An iTunes Preview page is not a full-movie player for your purchase.
- Do not expect a purchased title to download as a DRM-free MP4.
- A browser extension, screen recorder, or third-party downloader is not an Apple-supported solution and may violate terms or copyright protections.
- Do not buy an Apple TV subscription solely to access a movie you already purchased; subscription access and ownership are separate.
Quick answer by device
Windows PC: install Apple TV from Microsoft Store, then Library. Mac: Apple TV app, then Library. Smart TV, console, or streaming device: use the Apple TV app where supported; downloads are generally unavailable. Browser: useful for some Apple TV subscription viewing, but not a dependable universal player for purchased iTunes movies.

The Bottom Line
If Apple sold you the movie, open the Apple TV app and use Library—especially on Windows. Do not treat tv.apple.com as a guaranteed web version of your purchased iTunes library.
