Spotify promised to bring back a way to spot songs you had liked while browsing album and playlist track lists. That promise dates to the heart-to-“+” redesign, not a confirmed 2026 announcement. The available official documentation does not establish that the indicator has returned universally, so what you see may depend on your account, device and Spotify interface.
What Spotify said would return
When Spotify replaced the heart button with a “+” control, users lost—or could no longer reliably find—the at-a-glance marker showing that a track was in Liked Songs. Spotify described the new control as a way to save content and add it to playlists, but the change blurred a distinction many listeners relied on while browsing.
In a Spotify Community discussion about the redesign, a Spotify representative said visibility for previously liked songs in album and playlist track listings was “still coming back.” The statement did not set a firm date or promise identical behavior across mobile, desktop, web player, albums, playlists or artist pages. Is the liked-song marker back now?
There is no reliable basis here to say Spotify has restored the indicator for everyone. Spotify’s support page explains how to find Liked Songs, but does not document a universal marker in album and playlist listings. Its May 28, 2026 product update covers playlist folders, bulk actions, queue controls and download notifications, without confirming this restoration. Community reports describe the marker appearing for some users and disappearing for others. These reports show inconsistent experiences, not a verified global rollout. An indicator on one device or screen does not prove it is available elsewhere. Spotify Community user reports · Reddit discussion
How to check whether a track is in Liked Songs
Use the reliable library route
- Open Spotify and go to Your Library.
- Select Playlists.
- Open Liked Songs, then search or scroll for the track.
Spotify’s support documentation identifies Liked Songs as a playlist within Your Library. This confirms membership, but it is less convenient than seeing the status beside a track in the album or playlist you are browsing. Spotify Support: Your Library

Check the track menu as a workaround
If no marker appears in a track list, open the song’s three-dot menu or “+” control and inspect the playlist or save options for Liked Songs. Labels and interactions can differ by platform and app version, and this workaround is based on community guidance rather than a guaranteed procedure. Check carefully before changing a selection: a control may add or remove the track. Spotify Community discussion

What a liked marker does—and does not—mean
A liked-song marker is useful because it answers a specific question: is this individual track in your Liked Songs collection? Other Spotify library actions are not interchangeable with that status.

Spotify’s library explanation distinguishes liking songs from saving albums; it also describes a “Like all songs” action for albums. Why the indicator matters during music discovery
For listeners using Discover Weekly, editorial playlists or album pages to find music, a visible liked status makes scanning faster. It can show that a track has already passed a personal “keep” test without opening a menu or leaving the listening context. Playlist curators may also use Liked Songs as an approval list, while listeners browsing albums can distinguish favorites from tracks they have merely saved or queued.

Test availability without assuming it is universal
Check the same track in more than one place: an album page, a public or personal playlist, and—if relevant—Discover Weekly. Compare Spotify on iPhone or Android, the desktop app and the web player if you use them. Record which surface shows a marker and what that marker looks like; a heart, check or “+” may represent different actions in different interfaces. A result on one platform does not establish availability on the others.

- Unavailable or greyed-out tracks: catalog or regional availability, explicit-content settings, or licensing changes can affect what appears. Absence from a list is not proof that you unliked a song.
- Alternate versions: a remaster, live recording, remix or clean edit may be treated as a separate track from the version you liked.
- Local files: imported tracks may not behave like catalog tracks, so do not assume the same marker applies.
- Interface experiments: Spotify may assign different interface versions to accounts, producing a heart, check, “+” or no visible marker.
If your app behaves inconsistently, update it through your device’s official app store, force-close and reopen Spotify, then compare the same track on another device. Signing out and back in or clearing the cache where supported may help with a display problem, but neither confirms a global feature restoration. If the mismatch persists, report it through Spotify Support or the Spotify Community.

Alternatives if you need a visible collection
A separate “favorites” or “already heard” playlist can make your own listening workflow easier to scan, but it duplicates information and needs manual upkeep. Spotify’s 2026 playlist-management update includes playlist folders, which can help organize many playlists; folders do not replace a per-track liked marker. Switching streaming services is a larger response to a single interface gap. Apple Music, YouTube Music, Qobuz and Tidal are alternatives, but their current feature parity and suitability for your library are not established here. Consider a switch only if broader differences matter to you, not on the assumption that another service will reproduce this exact Spotify workflow.
