The formats can coexist in your channel workflow, although YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not explicitly guarantee that uploads and a livestream will operate simultaneously without interruption. A continuous stream is a separate issue: YouTube does not guarantee that one live feed can stay up indefinitely, and streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured in the archive.
What can happen on the same channel
You can use a channel for livestreams and ordinary video uploads. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not state that going live blocks regular uploads, but it also does not make an explicit guarantee about simultaneous upload operations while a stream is live.
YouTube’s concurrency limits concern active streams, not uploads: the Help page allows up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are limits, not a promise that an individual stream will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. YouTube’s reviewed guidance gives no blanket 24/7 uptime guarantee or maximum active-stream duration.
Can you run a 24/7 YouTube livestream?
A continuous feed is possible as an operating plan, but do not treat it as a guaranteed uninterrupted broadcast. The key documented caveat is the archive: streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If the full recording matters, plan how you will record locally and check both the live status and resulting recordings.

Choose a streaming method
YouTube’s live-stream guidance supports mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. An encoder can offer production control and can use equipment such as microphones, preamps, or cameras, but that equipment is setup-dependent; YouTube’s tips say expensive equipment is not required to get started. For a continuous pre-produced feed, consider the operational burden of keeping the streaming setup running and monitoring it.
Scheduled sessions versus one continuous feed
Scheduled live sessions create separate broadcasts that are easier to treat as individual episodes when that matches your publishing plan. A single continuous feed may suit a channel that wants an always-on presence, but it complicates archive management and does not remove the need to monitor whether the stream is still live. The reviewed YouTube pages do not establish that one approach is more reliable.

Organize episodes and livestream archives separately
YouTube defines a podcast as a playlist, with episodes represented by videos. Its Studio guidance recommends that a podcast playlist contain full-length episodes arranged in the intended listening or viewing order. Keep clips and supporting uploads in separate playlists rather than designating them as podcast episodes.
A livestream archive belongs in the podcast playlist only if it is a complete episode that fits the show’s sequence. A perpetual ambient feed or an archive that is not a full episode should not be presented as an episode just because it is a video. Podcast content may be eligible for discovery and YouTube Music features, but eligibility does not guarantee placement; some playlists, including content the creator does not own, are ineligible. Shorts made to support a podcast do not appear in YouTube Music.

Check eligibility and protect the broadcast
Live-stream eligibility
YouTube’s Help page says a channel must be verified and have no livestream restrictions in the prior 90 days to stream. It also says streamers must be at least 16. Confirm the channel’s eligibility before building a continuous-stream workflow.
Copyright and other policy obligations
You are responsible for having the rights needed for live content, including music rights. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party material. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and, if not addressed, temporarily interrupt or terminate it. Even when you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to prevent interruption. An archived livestream may also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and its guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

- Confirm live access: check that the channel is verified and has no livestream restriction in the prior 90 days; ensure the streamer meets YouTube’s stated minimum age.
- Choose the live method: use mobile, webcam, or an encoder according to the production and monitoring needs. YouTube’s live-stream tips cover the available methods.
- Plan for recovery and recording: monitor the live status and keep a local recording if you need a dependable copy, particularly for a feed that exceeds 12 hours. Check YouTube’s archive live streams guidance for archive behavior and settings.
- Publish regular videos as planned: the reviewed guidance does not say an active live stream blocks ordinary uploads, but it does not explicitly guarantee simultaneous upload operations either.
- Sort the resulting videos: add only complete, ordered episodes to the podcast playlist; place clips and non-episode continuous-feed archives in separate playlists. See Create a podcast in YouTube Studio and Distribute podcasts on YouTube.
- Review the broadcast afterward: check whether YouTube captured the archive and whether any copyright notice or Content ID claim appeared.
