AWS can be part of a setup that sends a prerecorded video to a scheduled YouTube Live event, but storing the file in Amazon S3 does not make it a livestream. You need an encoder or cloud media workflow to play or process the recording as a continuous live feed, then send that feed to YouTube using the event’s stream URL and key. AWS Elemental MediaLive documents MP4 as a video-on-demand input and RTMP/RTMPS output types, making it a plausible building block—not a verified, turnkey YouTube recipe.
How the AWS-to-YouTube workflow fits together
YouTube Studio schedules the event and provides the destination credentials; an encoder supplies the live feed. AWS may process and relay the video, but the file must be played or processed into that feed. YouTube’s encoder directory includes AWS Elemental MediaLive, and describes the AJA HELO Plus’s PlayToStream feature for scheduling and streaming prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live. AWS documentation identifies MP4 as a VOD input for MediaLive and RTMP/RTMPS as supported output types. Those capabilities do not establish that every MediaLive configuration will connect to YouTube without additional configuration or testing.
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and schedule a stream. Scheduling can create an upcoming watch page and let viewers set reminders. Use the event’s stream URL and key in the encoder workflow.
- Provide the recording to an encoder: For a MediaLive design, consult its current input and channel configuration documentation to determine how the MP4 VOD input is played or processed for your event. Confirm the playback and scheduling behavior for your specific workflow; the cited documentation does not provide a complete YouTube-specific walkthrough.
- Configure the destination output: Select an output compatible with YouTube’s ingest settings. MediaLive supports RTMP and RTMPS output types; AWS lists H.264 video and AAC audio for those output types. Enter the server URL and stream key supplied in YouTube Studio. Verify the current endpoint and protocol options before configuring the channel.
- Test before the scheduled broadcast: Start the feed early, check the Live Control Room preview, confirm the event is accessible as intended, then start the scheduled stream. Monitor video, audio, and the relevant network legs throughout the event. A private or unlisted test event can reveal configuration problems before a public broadcast.
What S3 does—and does not—do
Uploading an MP4 to Amazon S3 is storage, not a YouTube broadcast. AWS explicitly distinguishes MediaLive’s MP4 VOD input from live input and says it does not recommend S3 as a source for a live stream. Likewise, an AWS architecture that outputs HLS through S3 and CloudFront is a viewer-delivery pattern; it is not equivalent to sending an ingest feed to YouTube Live. For a YouTube event, configure and validate the destination protocol and credentials deliberately.
Requirements and safeguards before going live
Check YouTube channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance requires channel verification and no live-stream restriction during the prior 90 days. YouTube also sets an age minimum and requires streams to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Check the current eligibility guidance for your account before scheduling.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Protect the stream key
YouTube’s encoder instructions direct creators to enter the Live Control Room server URL and stream key in the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in logs, screenshots, or shared configuration, and regenerate it if compromised.
Monitor the actual network path
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder in advance, checking the preview, and verifying event accessibility. Its streaming tips recommend 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the bitrate requirement for primary and backup streams. That guidance is for a locally originating upload. In an AWS-originated workflow, monitor the cloud-side input and output paths as well as any local upload used to transfer the source file.

Clear rights for every part of the recording
A prerecorded file remains subject to copyright and platform rules when broadcast live. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that You have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” You are also responsible for applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Confirm rights for footage, music, narration, images, and other included material before streaming.
Plan for the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. Do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived in the same way; plan a separate recording or archive process if the full program must be retained.

Which approach makes sense?
The key difference is who handles playback and what you must operate. This is an operational comparison, not a claim that the options are interchangeable.
| Approach | What it does | What to evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Streams uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud, with 24/7 looping and playlists. | Best fit when you want an always-on cloud stream without keeping a computer running; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. |
| YouTube Studio plus a compatible software encoder | Schedules the event and sends a prerecorded feed from a computer running encoder software. | Ease of setup, computer runtime, local bandwidth, automation, and monitoring. |
| AWS Elemental MediaLive | Cloud media processing; AWS documents MP4 VOD input and RTMP/RTMPS output types. | AWS configuration effort, YouTube protocol compatibility, playback scheduling, resilience, monitoring, and region-specific cost. |
| AJA HELO Plus | A dedicated hardware encoder; YouTube describes its PlayToStream feature for scheduled prerecorded media. | Upfront device cost, storage and network needs, standalone operation, and fit with the event workflow. |
| Gyre | YouTube lists it as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming. | Confirm current features, scheduling and control, rights responsibilities, reliability needs, and vendor pricing. |
The cited AWS pricing guidance says MediaLive charges depend on resource states, input and output characteristics, and enabled features. Estimate using the actual AWS Region, configuration, run time, and resilience design; there is no single AWS cost that applies to every event.
