Yes—usually, but Crunchyroll has separate controls for English menus, English subtitles, and English audio. Changing one does not automatically change the others, and English may not be available for every title, season, episode, or region. Choose the setting that matches what you want to change.
Which language do you want to change?

These are distinct preferences. For example, English menus do not mean a show will play with English voices, and choosing English subtitles does not change the spoken audio. Crunchyroll’s language guidance describes display, audio, and subtitle preferences separately.

Change Crunchyroll’s menus to English
On the website, sign in, select your profile avatar, then open Settings → Preferences. Look for the display or language preference, choose English, and save if prompted. The exact label can vary with the interface language and current site layout.
Some TV and console apps offer fewer account controls or may respond to the device’s system-language setting. If you cannot find the display-language option on your TV, try changing it on the Crunchyroll website or mobile app, then reopen the TV app. Check that the intended profile is active. Menu names and behavior can vary by device, app version, and region.

Turn on English subtitles
For the episode you are watching
- Start the episode or movie.
- Open the player controls and select the gear/settings icon.
- Choose Subtitles/CC.
- Select English, if it appears.
To make English the default when available, open your profile’s Settings → Preferences and set Subtitle/CC Language to English. On mobile, the preference may be under the avatar or Account. Crunchyroll’s subtitle instructions cover the player control and default preference.
A default is a preference, not a promise that every episode has English subtitles. In some regions, certain shows with Japanese audio require subtitles to remain on, so disabling them may not be possible.

Switch to an English dub
While playback is running, open the gear/settings icon, choose Audio, and select English if it is listed. For future viewing, go to Settings → Preferences → Audio Language and choose English. Crunchyroll says the audio preference can apply when starting shows, while an individual episode’s track can still be changed; a series may also remember the last audio choice. Check whether English is available for the title
- Open the show or movie’s details page.
- Select More Details.
- Check the listed Audio and Subtitles languages.
English under Subtitles means English text is listed; English under Audio indicates an English track. Availability can differ by season and episode, and a language listed for a series may not be available for every installment. Regional catalog differences can also matter. Crunchyroll explains this in its guide to available show languages. If English is absent from the relevant listing, changing a preference cannot create a track that is not offered.
If English is missing or the setting keeps reverting
- Check the title details first. Confirm English is listed under Audio or Subtitles for the season and episode you are trying to watch.
- Check the season selector. The dub may be presented as a separate season.
- Confirm the active profile. If several people use the account, switch to the profile you want before changing preferences. Crunchyroll organizes viewing preferences and profile experiences around profiles; do not assume a change on one profile will update every profile.
- Set both the default and the episode option. Change the preference under Settings, then choose English in the player if available.
- Refresh the app. Close and reopen Crunchyroll, and install an available app update.
- Try another supported access method. Check the same episode on the website or mobile app if the TV or console app does not expose the option. Device controls differ; for example, Crunchyroll documents audio and subtitle preferences for Google TV and notes that Android features can vary by region, membership plan, or app version.
- Sign out and back in. If the preference still appears stuck, this can help refresh the account session. If the issue affects one title only, availability is more likely than a general account problem.
- Contact Crunchyroll Support if a listed language remains unavailable across devices or account preferences will not save. Reinstalling or clearing app data is a later option, not a guaranteed fix; downloaded episodes may need to be restored.
Does changing language require Premium?
Do not subscribe just to change menus, subtitles, or an audio track that is already available to you. Membership and feature availability can vary by region, plan, device, and app version, but Premium does not guarantee that every title has an English dub or subtitles. Before paying for access to a particular show, check that show’s language listing and the plan details for your country. Current plan information is on Crunchyroll’s Premium page; pricing and billing options can vary by location and purchase route.

Menu labels and app behavior can change. If an option described here is missing, update Crunchyroll and try the website or mobile app. Do not assume a VPN will add an English track: it is not a reliable fix for a language preference or an unavailable licensed version.
