Yes—you can generally stop Amazon Prime from renewing at any time. That does not always mean your access ends immediately or that Amazon will refund the current charge. During Amazon’s cancellation flow, your account may offer an end-of-term cancellation, an immediate end with a refund, or no refund. The result depends on your plan, trial status, benefit use, billing provider, country, and account history.
Use the option Amazon displays, then record the membership end date or confirmation message. Removing a payment card, deleting the app, or letting a payment fail is not a reliable cancellation.

Choose what you want cancellation to do
“Cancel Prime” can describe different outcomes:
- Stop the next renewal: You keep benefits until the displayed end date for the paid or trial period, if Amazon offers that option.
- End immediately: Access may stop at once. Amazon may show a refund offer, but it is not guaranteed.
- Ask for money back after a charge: This is a separate refund decision. Recent conversion, unused benefits, and the billing provider can matter.
Before leaving the page, look for a specific membership end date, renewal date, or cancellation confirmation. Not every account receives the same choices, and you should not assume a mid-cycle annual cancellation creates a prorated refund.

How to cancel full Amazon Prime on a computer
These are the current U.S. desktop labels in Amazon’s published instructions; menus can vary by account, browser, and location. Follow the prompts at Amazon’s cancellation guide.
- Sign in at Amazon.com.
- Open Accounts & Lists.
- Select Prime Membership.
- Open Manage Membership.
- Select End Membership.
- Complete every confirmation screen and save the final result.
Amazon may present a reminder, an end-at-renewal choice, or an immediate-cancellation option before the final confirmation. Read the date and refund language rather than selecting the first button that appears.
How to cancel Prime in the Amazon Shopping app

- Select Manage Prime Membership.
- Open the Manage Membership menu.
- Tap End Membership.
- Finish the confirmation prompts and capture the end date.
If labels differ, search the account area for Prime, Membership, or Manage Membership. Do not rely on old screenshots using labels such as “Your Prime Membership.”

Can you avoid a charge on a free trial?
Eligible customers can receive a 30-day Prime trial, which automatically converts to a paid membership unless canceled. Amazon’s trial guidance says to cancel under Manage Prime Membership before the trial’s exact expiration date.
- Check the expiration date shown in your account.
- Cancel before that date if you do not want a paid membership.
- Save the confirmation email or screen.
- Do not assume uninstalling the app or removing a card ends the trial.
If a conversion charge already posted, use the cancellation flow immediately and ask Amazon support whether the account qualifies for a refund. Amazon’s published U.S. price signal is $14.99 per month or $139 per year for standard Prime, but verify the amount, taxes, promotion, and eligibility shown on your account.

Will Amazon refund your Prime fee?
There is no universal automatic refund. The cancellation page and Amazon customer service are the final authority for your account.

Prime Video-only
A standalone Prime Video subscription uses a different control. In Prime Video, go to Account & Settings, open the account tab, and select End Subscription, as described in Prime Video help. Prime Video included with full Amazon Prime must be canceled through Prime Membership settings. Ending Prime Video-only does not necessarily end a separate full Prime membership.
What happens to benefits and add-on subscriptions?
- Existing orders are not automatically canceled when Prime ends.
- Future orders may lose Prime delivery eligibility, deals, or Prime-only pricing.
- Prime Video access included with full Prime may end when the membership ends; purchased or rented digital content is distinct from subscription access, and availability varies by location and rights.
- Prime Video says additional subscriptions tied to Prime or Prime Video do not renew once the underlying membership ends. “Does not renew” does not necessarily mean immediate termination; check each subscription’s end date.
- Channels and other add-ons billed separately can continue under their own terms. Review Memberships & Subscriptions and your card statement.
Benefits such as shipping, Music, grocery or pharmacy offers, delivery partnerships, and household sharing vary by plan, account, and country. Consider the benefits other household members use before choosing immediate cancellation.

- Confirm that you are signed into the account named on the charge or receipt.
- Try a desktop browser if the app does not show the controls.
- Open Manage Prime Membership, not only a general Prime benefits page.
- Check whether the charge is for Prime Video-only, a channel, or another subscription.
- Identify the merchant on your statement. Apple, Google, a mobile carrier, cable provider, or another intermediary may require cancellation there.
- Contact Amazon customer service and explicitly request cancellation of recurring renewal, the effective cancellation date, and a review of refund eligibility.
- Save screenshots, emails, chat transcripts, and case numbers.
Do not use a declined payment as your cancellation method. It can create billing problems without giving you a confirmed end date.

When a third party billed you
Amazon’s Prime Video terms state that subscriptions transacted through third parties can have different cancellation and refund terms and may need to be canceled with that provider. Check whether the merchant is Amazon, Apple App Store, Google Play, a carrier, a cable or internet company, or another seller. A Prime Video-only subscription may also be separate from full Prime. The party that billed you usually controls renewal and refund mechanics.
If enrollment or cancellation was mishandled
The FTC’s Amazon settlement is separate from an ordinary Prime cancellation refund. The FTC says eligible U.S. customers may qualify for refunds of up to $51 if they enrolled through a challenged flow or unsuccessfully tried to cancel between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and used no more than three Prime benefits in a relevant 12-month period. See the official FTC refund page for current eligibility, notices, and payment information.
The FTC page states that automatic refunds were sent in November and December 2025, claim notices began in January 2026, and claim payments were expected later in 2026. Do not assume a claim window remains open without checking that page. Ignore unsolicited refund links and verify any settlement administrator through the FTC.
Keep, cancel, or replace Prime?
Make the decision from your actual use rather than a headline price:

- Divide your annual fee by the number of months you realistically use Prime.
- Estimate shipping savings from orders you would place anyway.
- Add the value of Prime Video, Music, delivery, grocery, pharmacy, or deal benefits you actually use.
- Subtract benefits you could replace with free pickup, standalone streaming, a library, or another service.
Amazon’s published U.S. price signal is $14.99 monthly or $139 annually for standard Prime; student/young-adult and Prime Access prices may differ, and all prices and eligibility can change. A different delivery or streaming service is worthwhile only if it replaces your real use cases at lower cost.
Verify the cancellation
- Capture the final confirmation screen.
- Save the confirmation email.
- Record the displayed membership end date.
- Check the next card or bank statement.
- Reopen Manage Prime Membership to confirm there is no upcoming renewal.
- If another charge appears, contact Amazon with the confirmation date and request an investigation.
The Bottom Line
You can stop Prime’s recurring renewal whenever you choose, but immediate access and refunds depend on the option shown in your account, benefits used, plan, and billing provider. Complete the official cancellation flow and keep proof of the displayed end date.
