The documented workflow is to add clips or shots to a playlist and arrange them; the Wirecast guide does not document automatically importing every file in a folder or monitoring a folder for new videos. For a predictable sequence, build the playlist from the files you want and put that playlist live.
What Wirecast’s playlist can—and cannot—do
A playlist shot contains multiple preselected clips or shots and can be broadcast like another shot. Telestream’s Wirecast product page lists YouTube as a streaming destination and describes prerecorded-video capabilities.
A folder is a filesystem container, while a playlist is an ordered selection. The documented playlist workflow supports adding chosen clips or shots; it does not describe an “add folder” action that automatically enumerates its contents. Nor does the documentation establish that newly added files will be appended to a playlist automatically. Treat folder playback as a playlist you build from files in that folder, rather than assuming folder monitoring.
Build a playlist shot and take it live
These labels and steps are from Telestream’s Wirecast 15 Windows User Guide. The exact controls may differ by version or operating system. Telestream’s version history lists Wirecast 16.5.3, dated June 10, 2026, and notes recent playlist and media-playback changes; check the controls in your installed version.

- In a layer, click the plus sign (+), choose Shots, select New Playlist Shot, and click Add.
- Add the videos you want. Drag clips or shots onto the playlist shot, or double-click that shot to open its Playlist tab, choose Shots > New Shot, and select the desired clips.
- Arrange the items in the intended order. Configure the playlist’s end behavior and decide whether shuffle should be on or off.
- Send the playlist shot to the Live Broadcast Area. With AutoLive disabled, select the playlist and click Go. With AutoLive enabled, clicking a shot sends it to the Live Broadcast Area.
- Confirm the playlist is live in Wirecast and that the YouTube broadcast is receiving it.
The playlist is assembled from selected clips or shots—not by selecting a folder and relying on Wirecast to determine its contents or order. To include another file later, add it to the playlist yourself.
Choose the playback behavior
- Loop: After the final shot, playback returns to the first shot and repeats.
- Hold: Playback stays on the last shot. If the last item is a video and you want its final frame to remain visible, set that clip’s own When Finished behavior to Hold as well as setting the playlist to Hold.
- Shuffle: Changes the order of playlist shots. Keep it off if the videos need to play in a fixed sequence.
- Next / Previous: Manually move between playlist items while the playlist is live.
Do not delete shots from a playlist while it is running; the Wirecast guide cautions against doing so. Nested playlists are unsupported.

Fixed playlist or automatic folder updates?

Telestream’s version history mentions improved watching of network shares for media-file updates. That note does not establish that Wirecast automatically turns a folder’s contents into an ordered playlist.
Copyright and YouTube considerations
Wirecast’s playlist controls determine how selected media is played; they do not grant rights to broadcast it. Before going live, make sure you have the rights or permission needed for the videos and any included music, footage, or other material. A playlist being technically playable does not establish that its contents comply with YouTube’s rules or that a channel qualifies for monetization.
