What Restreamer can do without OBS

If you want to use a playlist, a separate playback system would need to lawfully access and play the videos, advance or retry items as needed, and output a stream Restreamer accepts. The reviewed documentation does not identify or endorse a particular playlist player. Check the current Restreamer release and the playback source’s own documentation before building around a particular URL or format.
What a continuous setup requires
Restreamer is presented as a self-hosted Docker application. Its quick start shows configuration and data mounts as well as network ports; it does not describe a managed, plug-and-play hosting service. Restreamer documents a reconnect control for a malfunctioning video process. That may help restore a process connection, but it does not establish automatic playlist sequencing, guarantee uptime, or ensure that YouTube will never disconnect the stream. Restreamer documentation
How to decide whether the Restreamer route fits
- Confirm rights first: you must be authorized to rebroadcast every video and its audio. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights for Live Content across Google services, including relevant music and audiovisual rights. YouTube live-stream terms
- Verify the source output: make sure the playback system provides an accessible stream in a protocol Restreamer supports. A YouTube playlist page URL is not listed as a Restreamer input type in the source guides.
- Check playlist behavior: verify that the separate player advances through items, handles unavailable videos, and can keep producing output. Restreamer’s documented reconnect control is not a substitute for those functions.
- Plan for continuous hosting: keep the playback system, Restreamer host, and internet connection running for as long as the broadcast is intended to continue.
- Decide how you will handle the recording: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume one continuous feed will produce a complete archive. YouTube Help: live stream archiving
End the YouTube event carefully if you need an archive
Restreamer’s YouTube guide advises ending the stream on YouTube first. Interrupting Restreamer during a live stream may mean YouTube does not save it in its DVR archive. Combined with YouTube’s warning about streams exceeding 12 hours, this makes a continuous broadcast a poor substitute for separately planned recordings when a complete archive matters.
