Possibly—but it is not guaranteed. YouTube’s eligibility guidance excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to video on demand (VOD) from the public watch hours used for YouTube Partner Program (YPP) thresholds. Keeping a stream public and available as a VOD may make its hours eligible, but YouTube does not promise that every minute of a loop will count. The stream must also comply with monetization rules on original content, reused content, repetitive material, and artificial engagement.
What needs to be true for livestream hours to count toward YPP?
YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance identifies livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD as excluded from qualified public watch hours. In practical terms, a public livestream retained as a VOD may contribute to the threshold. That is a conditional reading of the exclusion—not a guarantee that every public stream, loop, or viewing minute will qualify.
- Visibility: The relevant stream should be public, rather than unlisted or private.
- After the broadcast: Keep the stream available and converted to VOD; deleting it or leaving it unconverted falls within YouTube’s stated exclusions.
- Channel eligibility: Meeting a watch-hour threshold does not by itself mean the channel will pass monetization review.
These conditions concern whether hours can qualify for YPP eligibility. They do not establish where YouTube attributes a loop’s viewing time in Analytics.
Watch time, views, and qualified hours are different measures
A view is not the same as a qualified YPP watch hour. YouTube’s Analytics guidance says views are counted when playback starts. Its update dated August 24, 2026 says this change does not affect YPP earnings or eligibility, which continue to rely on engaged or qualified measures.

So a rise in a stream’s view count does not prove that the same amount has been added to the channel’s qualified-watch-hours total. Check the channel’s YouTube Studio reports for observed results; the official guidance does not specify how repeated playback within a livestream is attributed between the live event, its replay, and the original upload.
Can a looped stream create monetization-policy problems?
Yes, depending on the content and how it is presented. YouTube’s channel monetization policies require original and authentic content. Reviewers may consider a channel’s most-viewed videos and the content responsible for the largest share of its watch time, so a stream that drives many hours can also be prominent in a monetization review.

Repetitive and reused content
On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified its policy on “repetitious content,” renaming it “inauthentic content” and describing repetitive or mass-produced material. The same policy page says reused content is material republished without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. YouTube did not say that every loop of an existing video is automatically disallowed; however, a repetitive stream that adds little value may be difficult to reconcile with these policies.
Consider whether the stream offers viewers meaningful context or a distinct experience, and whether you have the rights to use all material in it. A public VOD and qualifying hours do not exempt a channel from content review.

Artificial engagement
YouTube states: “Creators should not artificially inflate a channel’s engagement, such as views, subs, likes, watch time, and ad impressions.” Do not use bots, paid watch-time schemes, or other artificial methods to raise engagement. The policy does not establish that every legitimate rebroadcast of a creator’s own material is artificial engagement; the content and promotion still need to be genuine.
Does the live loop add hours to the original upload?
YouTube’s published eligibility and Analytics guidance does not explain whether viewers’ time during a loop is credited to the original upload, the livestream and its replay, or both. Nor does it promise a particular increase in the YPP counter. Treat attribution as unresolved rather than assuming that a loop transfers hours to the original video or that the stream’s duration equals credited watch hours.

How to check your own channel’s results
- Set the stream’s visibility to public. Avoid unlisted or private status if you want its hours to have a chance to count toward qualified public watch hours.
- Retain the broadcast as a VOD. Do not delete it or leave it unconverted if you are relying on its hours.
- Review YouTube Studio’s Analytics and YPP eligibility figures. Compare the live event and replay where the reports allow, and use the eligibility counter—not a view count alone—to assess qualified hours.
- Check the channel against monetization policies. Evaluate originality, reused material, repetition, and how the stream contributes value before relying on it as a major source of watch time.
Studio reports can show what YouTube attributes on your channel, but the cited guidance does not guarantee a particular attribution pattern for loops.

For a do-it-yourself livestream, the key policy points remain the same regardless of the playback setup: public visibility and VOD availability affect the stated watch-hour exclusions, while content policies and genuine engagement still apply. A computer-based setup does not change those eligibility rules.
