Yes, an Intel NUC can run a prerecorded YouTube Live stream around the clock—if that specific NUC can encode your chosen video settings and its power and internet connection remain available. “Intel NUC” covers many configurations, so there is no universal model or setting that guarantees 24/7 operation. YouTube supports computer-based encoders; check the exact NUC specifications and test your complete setup before relying on it.
What determines whether your NUC can handle it?
The NUC is the computer running an encoder: software sends the prerecorded video to YouTube Live using the stream URL and stream key. Whether the system can sustain that job depends on the exact model, its graphics and encoding support, the resolution and frame rate you choose, and the upload capacity available throughout the broadcast.
Identify the exact model and configuration
Find the product code on the device, then look up that model’s specifications on Intel’s NUC product pages. Check the installed processor, memory, operating system, graphics configuration, and cooling against the workload you intend to run. The NUC name alone does not establish a minimum specification, and no universal minimum model is established here.
Check hardware video acceleration
Intel Quick Sync can accelerate video encoding and decoding on supported systems. Intel says Quick Sync is only available when processor graphics are enabled; support and capabilities vary with the device and configuration. Confirm that the feature is available on your specific NUC and selectable in your encoder rather than assuming every NUC has the same capability. See Intel’s Quick Sync guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Configure YouTube Live and test the stream
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check the current requirements in YouTube Help.
- Set up the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Choose the encoder workflow and copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel. YouTube creates the live watch page when the encoder begins sending content. Follow the current encoder setup instructions.
- Choose compatible encoder settings. YouTube’s current guidance for RTMP/RTMPS lists H.264, HEVC, and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Match resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate to the source, the NUC’s capabilities, and the connection. Settings can change, so check YouTube’s live encoder settings when configuring.
- Allow upload headroom. Estimate the total outgoing stream bitrate, including audio, and make sure the connection has capacity beyond that rate. YouTube recommends 20% spare upload capacity; this is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee that every connection will remain stable. Its network guidance also emphasizes checking stream conditions.
- Run a representative test. Use the actual video, audio, loop behavior, and intended settings. Watch YouTube’s stream health and confirm that the live page is visible and plays correctly. A brief successful start does not establish that a machine or connection will run continuously; test for an extended period and monitor CPU or hardware-encoding load, temperature, and dropped frames.
Plan for interruptions and long broadcasts
A 24/7 target makes power, software, and network failures operational concerns, not just encoder settings. For an unattended NUC, consider automatic restart after a power loss or encoder crash, a way to check the machine remotely, and a resilient internet connection. These are practical precautions, not guarantees from Intel or YouTube. A local NUC also depends on the electricity and internet connection at its location; an outage there can interrupt the broadcast.
Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream-health indicators after launch. If the feed stops, check whether the NUC is powered on, the encoder is running, the internet connection is available, and the stream key and output settings are still correct. Test your recovery procedure before leaving the stream unattended.

Do not assume one 24-hour stream will become one archive
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams lasting 12 hours or longer. If you need a saved recording, plan around the current YouTube live-stream archiving guidance and verify the result in your channel rather than treating a 24/7 broadcast as one guaranteed archive.
Check rights and channel policies
Using a prerecorded video does not exempt it from YouTube’s rules. Make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, music, and other material, and that the stream complies with YouTube’s policies. Review YouTube’s live-streaming policies before setting up a continuous broadcast.

Choose between a NUC and a cloud workflow
If you already own a suitable NUC, it may be a practical encoder host, but you remain responsible for its operation, power, local network, monitoring, and recovery. YouTube’s verified encoder directory also includes software, cloud services, and dedicated hardware. For example, its listing describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams and AJA HELO Plus PlayToStream as capable of scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Those listings show that alternatives exist; they do not establish an endorsement or particular service terms. See YouTube’s encoder directory.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams the file as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; there are no quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video on YouTube, not camera-based live video.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| Encoder cannot connect or YouTube does not receive video | Confirm the stream URL and key, that the key belongs to the intended YouTube broadcast, and that the encoder is sending. Re-enter the key carefully if necessary, and keep it private. |
| Stream health reports instability or dropped frames | Check available upload capacity and whether other devices or applications are using the connection. Reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate to a setting the NUC and connection can sustain, then retest with headroom. |
| NUC runs hot or encoding performance degrades | Verify that the workload is within the exact model’s capabilities, cooling is unobstructed, and hardware acceleration is enabled and available in the encoder if supported. Try more conservative settings. |
| Stream stops after a power or software failure | Check power, restart the encoder and NUC if needed, and verify the connection and stream key. Configure and test restart and remote-monitoring procedures before depending on unattended operation. |
| Expected archive is missing or incomplete | Check the broadcast duration and YouTube’s current archiving guidance; automatic archiving is documented for streams under 12 hours, not as a promise for a 24-hour stream. |
